At 7 p.m on April 8, 2022, the 13th Wangyang Cup Law Debate Competition Grand Final and the 13th Guanying Cup Law Essay Competition Award Ceremony, hosted by Faculty of Law and organized by its student union, sponsored by the MUST Foundation, was held at University’s N212 Lecture Hall.
Procurator of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao S.A.R, Cheang Weng In, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development,MUST, Professor Liu Cheng Kun , President of Alumni Association of Faculty of Law, MUST, Lau Chak Kwong , Partner of Punchoichan Law Firm, Lawyer Oriana Inácio Pun, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Fang Quan, Professor Li Xiao Ping, Program Director Bi Jing Wei, Assistant Professor Xiao Hui Na, Assistant Professor Dai Meng Liang, Assistant Professor Zhong Wen Cai and other teachers and students with a total of nearly 100 people attended the event.

The Wangyang Cup Law Debate Competition is a regular event of the Faculty of Law which aims to encourage students to develop their oral legal debating skills and teamwork. Debate is a confrontation which is full of game of skills and strength. With the aim to improve students’ critical thinking ability and encourage them to apply what they have learned in practice, the competition provides a stage for students to show themselves. After three rounds of competition, including qualifying rounds, preliminary rounds and a semi-final round, four teams were selected to compete in the final round The final round consisted of two battles, which were the second runner-up battle and the championship battle. The debaters of affirmative side Shang Ji Yuan, Ding Zhuo Fan， Ma Yu Meng，Wang Zhan Ran debated with the debaters of negative side Hou Wei Kai, Xu Jing, Wang Qi and Liu Yu Ying in the first battle. The two sides debated on “ whether the Macao S..A.R should amend the laws to strengthen its supervision on the gambling industry or not”. The judges for the first battle were Procurator Cheang Weng In, Professor Liu Cheng Kun, President Lau Chak Kwong, Lawyer Oriana Inácio Pun, Professor Li Xiao Ping. In the championship battle, the debaters of affirmative side Wu Fan，Hu Qiu Shi, Mo Fei and Qiu Yi Lin debated with the debaters of negative side Jia Zi He, Xu Ke, Li Xin Lu and Ning Zi Meng, The two sides sparked vigorous debate on “Whether China’ dynamic zero-Covid policy meets the principle of proportionality or not”. The judges for the championship battle were Procurator Cheang Weng In, Professor Liu Cheng Kun, President Lau Chak Kwong, Lawyer Oriana Inácio Pun, Assistant Professor Bi Jing Wei. The judges spoke highly of all debaters’ performance and also suggested that more professional knowledge be applied in the competition besides the excellent debating skills. After two fierce battles, the team of Wu Fan, Hu Qiu Shi, Mo Fei, Qiu Yi Lin won the champion for their outstanding performance. Meanwhile, the team of Jia Zi He, Xu Ke, Li Xin Lu, Ning Zi Meng won the runner-up and the team of Hou Wei Kai, Xu Jing, Wang Qi and Guo Yu Ying won the second runner-up. Wang Zhan Ran won the title of the Best Debater.

The Guanying Cup Law Essay Competition is a also traditional event that aims to encourage students to develop their legal research essay writing skills. The 13th Guanying Cup Law Essay Competition received a total of 30 essays from undergraduate and postgraduate students since it was first open for application. The Faculty of Law formed a judging panel. After two rounds of judging, all the essays were selected and tested by the University's Academic Misconduct Detection System. Finally, six students of undergraduates and graduates won the Best Paper Award and Outstanding Paper Award respectively. The Best Paper Award of undergraduates group was given to Senior student Shi Ruo Qi for her essay titled “Discussion on the Explanation of Decriminalization of Collecting Public Data”. Senior student Wang Xin Miao’s essay “ A Study on Feasibility of Trust of Data under China’s Legal System” and Junior student Fang Hao Cheng’s essay “The Identification Standards of ‘the Source of Illegal Meritorious Clues’ and the Evaluation of ‘No Interests Gained from the Evil’under the System of Rendering Meritorious Service” won the Outstanding Award of undergraduates group. Huang Ping Ping, a first year Doctor of Law student, won the Best Paper Award of graduates group for the essay “ The Necessity and Mode Selection of Reconstructing the System of Sexual Crime Recording”. The second-year student of Master of Financial Crime and Regulation program, Li Yu Tiao’s essay“Evasion of Law of Cross-border Financial Derivatives Transaction—A Case Study on Event of Personal Account for Crude Oil Product of Bank of China” and the first-year Doctor of Law student Yang Wen De’s essay “ From Telephone Monitoring to Interception of Communication Records: the History and Future of Technical Investigation in Macao” won the Outstanding Paper Award of graduates group.
