The Faculty of Law Holds Two Graduate Student Orientation Lectures in September

In September, the Faculty of Law held two graduate student orientation lectures, providing guidance and advice to new graduate students on curriculum guidelines, competition activities, and legal research.

On the afternoon of September 7, the first lecture, titled "Master's Curriculum Guidelines and Promotion of Competition Activities," was successfully held in the lobby of Building D. The lecture aimed to help new graduate students understand the curriculum guidelines for the 2023/2024 academic year, introduce important considerations during the master's program and thesis writing, and provide an overview of academic competitions organized by the college. The goal was to assist new students in planning their studies and career paths effectively. The lecture was hosted by Assistant Professor Mou Xiaobo, the Program Director of the Graduate Program at the Faculty of Law, with Assistant Professor Peng Yunpeng and Assistant Professor Xue Wenchao as guest speakers. Assistant Professor Peng Yunpeng and Assistant Professor Xue Wenchao, as competition team coaches, introduced the outstanding achievements of the college in recent international academic competitions and shared their preparation experiences and necessary skills. They encouraged students to actively participate in academic competitions to broaden their international perspectives, enhance their academic abilities, and develop their professional qualities.

The second graduate student orientation lecture, titled "Gateway to Legal Research," was held on September 28 in Classroom N214. The lecture was hosted by Assistant Professor Zhang Chuanqi, with Assistant Professor Peng Yunpeng as the main speaker, and Program Director Mou Xiaobo and Assistant Professor Zhou Qin as panelists. At the beginning of the lecture, Assistant Professor Peng Yunpeng provided a detailed introduction to legal research methods based on his years of research experience. He also highlighted common issues encountered during the process of writing graduate theses. Assistant Professor Peng emphasized the need for patience and perseverance in legal research, encouraging the new students to learn and accumulate knowledge throughout their research journey. During the panel discussion, Program Director Mou Xiaobo talked about the importance of critical thinking. He encouraged students to maintain an open mindset in legal research, constantly questioning and exploring, and presenting innovative perspectives and solutions. Subsequently, Assistant Professor Zhou Qin introduced the application of empirical research methods in legal research. He encouraged students to learn and utilize empirical research methods to improve the scientific rigor and credibility of their research.

The graduate student orientation lecture, "Gateway to Legal Research," is part of the welcoming series of activities organized by the Faculty of Law specifically for new students. Through these activities, the faculty aims to help new students integrate into their learning and life at the M.U.S.T. more quickly, enhance their understanding of the legal profession, and familiarize them with the teaching culture and academic foundation of the Faculty of Law at the M.U.S.T.
