26th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum

The 26th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum will commence with “Discoveries in Aesthetic Medicine” from July 24-26 in Macau. Dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and top scientists from the USA, Germany, France, Portugal, Australia and Hong Kong, are offering a unique platform for advanced discussions in the region.

These exciting topics include hyperhidrosis, facial and nose contouring, dyspigmentation issues in Asia, minimally invasive procedures, surgical management of vitiligo to some extremely important subjects for the diffusion of the cosmetic dermatology.

One presenter, Dr. WY Cheung from Hong Kong Pedder Clinic, noted, “Hundreds of cosmetic procedures are carried out by many professional cosmetic doctors in Hong Kong and Macau on any given day. As we have seen on the news, there is certain risk related with rogue and non-medical individuals. These procedures should not be administered by unqualified providers and the general public should ensure there is appropriate medical backup and skills training for qualified professionals.”

Prof. Manson Fok, President of the Sino-Luso International Medical Forum, noted, “This series of discussions will focus on the latest developments in all aspects in regards to the latest discovery in aesthetic medicine. It will create dialogue of all imperative issues in relations to beauty and health in which they cannot be disconnected. There will be many high quality workshops and scientific symposiums.”

In Southern China and Asia writ large, there has been a steady rise in cosmetic related surgery and procedures carried out with all demographics represented. The general public is well aware of the various cosmetic deployment of Botox (Botulinum toxin). Botox injects used to be only a fad for Hollywood celebrities, but it is now mainstream.

Regarding this, one speaker for the forum, Dr. Kwun Cheung Hau, said, “Pursuing a Botox Training course for physicians and many licensed healthcare professionals has been the tendency these days in many western countries. For safety reasons, this interesting forum is catered for our local medical professionals to learn a set of skills to grasp the technique and intricacies of injectable procedures. We are convinced that there is a big demand for high quality Botox workshops here in this region”

Another presenter, Dr. Raymond Ng from the Hong Kong University, said, “We have heard news stories about patients being taken to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest during a cosmetic surgery procedure. This serves as a reminder that cosmetic surgery is real surgery with risks involved. This is a requirement and necessary and for most aesthetic training courses being opened to our colleagues in Macau. These workshops can be made as a basis in the practice for every aesthetic operation out here.”

A Portuguese surgical expert, Dr. Lai Yun Fee, will also be presenting in this forum’s Sino-Luso medical spirit.

Academic programs for this forum will be chaired by the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), of which Dr. Manson Fok also serves as its Dean at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Founded in 2011, the Sino-Luso International Medical Forums are supported by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the PRC, the 2.6 million member strong Chinese Medical Doctors Association in Beijing, and a list of outstanding healthcare organizations and Portuguese speaking associations in Macau.
