49th Sino Luso International Medical Forum

From June 8th – 10th, the 49th Sino Luso International Medical Forum will host a dynamic “HazMat Medical Response Training” series of workshops and seminars for over 300 medical professionals, including government aid agencies and rescue teams and frontline emergency workers. This event will discuss timely topics such as Disaster Risk Reduction, Disaster Response, and Communications and Logistics.

President of the forum Professor Manson Fok comments, “Natural disasters are on the rise along the coasts, and Macao has suffered tremendously with two super typhoons in the past two years. Hazardous Materials Emergency Response is urgent and indeed important for a city like Macao. Hazmat emergency preparedness is critical, especially since Macao holds many major international events every year and sees over 30 million visitors annually. Emergency preparedness ensures the city’s healthcare services and economic livelihood are safeguarded. I would particularly like to thank the Hong Kong Association for Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine for providing resources, and the the Health Human Resources Development Center of the National Health Commission (Formerly the Ministry of Health) of People’s Republic of China for their support on this amazing forum.”

There will be two VIP guests from Sri Lanka joining us for the first time, Honorable Member of Parliament of Sri Lanka, Mr. Chanaka Vitharanage and The Honorable Member of the Colombo Municipal Council, Ms. Nithya Samaranayake. Amongst the esteemed speakers and VIP guest, President of Hong Kong Association for Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine, Dr. Jimmy Chan and Vice President Dr. YY Chow will be conducting HazMat Emergency Response training. From Beijing, Prof. Jia Da Cheng from the Beijing Emergency Centre and Ms. Xu Ling, the Deputy Director General of Health Human Resources Center of the National Health Commission. The Director of Health Human Resources Center of the National Health Commission, Ms. Yilina.

Forum Vice President Dr. Billy Chan added, “We welcome our two top Sri Lankan government officers attending our forum, we are all saddened about senseless massacre happened on Easter Sunday, on behalf of our forum, we pay tribute to the medical and emergency services who are providing support to those who have been injured. They have done a remarkable job. I believe the participants who are gathering here today are the key partners and can play the crucial role to save people’s lives in our region. One this note, let us hope that this meeting can start another step forward.”
