This 3-day forum event was chaired by the Macau University of Science and Technology: Faculty of Health Sciences, held on the 14th – 16th August, 2011
An outstanding list of invited keynote speakers, surgical experts and trainers have came from Portugal, Sweden, Australia, the Chinese mainland, and Hong Kong to attend this meaningful forum. Our local officials from the Health Bureau of Macau SAR presided over the entire forum. One of our special guests, the President of Portuguese Surgical Society, Professor Henrique Castelo was attending the forum and delivered his keynote lecture titled as “Teaching Surgery in the 21st Century”.
A meaningful Memorandum of Understanding dossier was signed with MUST to signify the official collaboration between the faculty and internationally renowned surgical society.
A litany of specially designed workshops, keynote presentations and skills training programs were held at two different venues: the Centre of Excellence for Medical Professional Development at the MUST; and the Lecture Hall of the Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation.
This important medical forum was primarily focused on minimally invasive surgical techniques and emphasizing on good outcomes; namely patient safety and management on many challenging issues and different specialties. Among them were emerging technologies, such as tele-robotic arms. For this, internationally renowned Tele-Robotic surgical experts gave lectures on Robotic Prostatectomy and Robotic assisted HPB Surgery.
The extensive 3-day program featured more than 12 high-level surgeons, with carefully selected lectures to provide surgeons and researchers with an in-depth overview of how to treat diseases of colon, liver, urological issues, breast, thyroid, kidney, etc. Two simulation educationalists from Sweden and Australia provided intermediate to advanced laparoscopic simulation training workshops.
