Sino-Luso International Medical Forum (Series Nine)

中葡國際醫學論壇 (系列九)

Macau's 9th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum features the PROMPT (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training) workshops in Macau on 6th September. The first time a workshop of this caliber relating to obstetrics and gynecology has ever been hosted in Macau.

This unique forum helped to support all maternity professionals in working effectively in a multidisciplinary manner particularly in dealing with obstetric emergency situations. The aim was to train a team of obstetricians, nurses, anesthetists and midwives within the realm of a delivery ward.

This high quality training program has been running successfully in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and mainland China. We are honored to have the author of the official PROMPT course manual, Prof Tim Draycott travelling all the way from the United Kingdom to facilitate this obstetric emergency training course.

These experts discussed the benefits of the PROMPT model in reducing harm to both mothers and babies. All medical professionals in attendance will be trained in real life scenarios with some of the latest high fidelity manikins and child birth simulators in the field.

Prof Draycott said, “I am very much looking forward to come to Macau next week and to deliver all the latest updates in many aspects of team training, our staunch supporter, Christopher Eskell, the CEO of the PROMPT maternity foundation was here to preside over the event."

Prof Tak Yeung Leung commented, “We are looking forward to share our experiences in PROMPT training, it is vitally important for trainees to experience practical simulated emergency drills, this simulation program teaches everyone in the maternity ward the necessary practical skills and to learn how to interact with each other effectively”

Dr. Manson Fok, President of Sino-Luso International Medical Forum said, "This world class training program has improved outcomes for mothers and their babies. This has proven to reduce obstetric risk and has taught hundreds and thousands of medical professionals around the world. We are proud to have such a wonderful team of experts to provide advanced training to our local doctors and medical team."

Among the experts, we also had Associate Prof Kim Khaw and Associate Prof Simon Lam respectively from the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care and the Department of Paediatrics of Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Dr Chan Wan Pang, consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Princess Margaret Hospital.

This 9th Sino-Luso International Medical Forum event was chaired by the Macau University of Science and Technology: Faculty of Health Sciences and organized by the Macau Healthcare Management and Promotion Association (MHMPA). It was also supported by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China, as well as a list of outstanding healthcare organization and Portuguese speaking associations here in Macau.
