The 21st Sino-Luso International Medical Forum in Macau from September 27 to 29 will be hosting special training courses in Clinical Toxicology.

This weekend’s courses for Macau’s frontline medical professionals in public and private hospitals present the latest research in treating substances that poison the human body. These include treating both alcohol and drug abuse.

The President of Sino-Luso International Medical Forum, Dr. Manson Fok, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), comments, “As a follow up to the Clinical Toxicology forum held at Sino-Luso in October 2013, this forum will accredit Macau's healthcare providers with the latest in Advanced Clinical Toxicology.”

Dr. Fok continues, “We are very much looking forward to our three full days exciting and stimulating programs. This 21st forum is proud to present high quality academic programs.”

One of the presenters is Dr. Lau Fei Lung, Director of the Hong Kong Poison Information Centre. Dr. Lau remarks, “We are excited to come over to Macau again with a team of specialists in this field, we understand drug and alcohol abuse and metal poisoning are the current topic today.

This forum will provide special workshops with the know-how in dealing with issues in all kinds symptoms, advanced treatments and detection of poisoning when toxins come into contact with the human body.”

Dr. Manson Fok further comments, “Our aim is to bring together leading experts to exchange and share their experiences about all aspects of toxicology. It also provides a unique platform for all our healthcare partners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and practical challenges stumbled upon in our emergency services and the latest treatment adopted in the field of toxicology.

A team of experts from Hong Kong will run quality workshops in the area of Advanced Antidote and Toxi Lab drug detection. Macau’s frontline medical providers will gain insights in a vast array of toxicological topics.

Dr. Lau further comments, “We will train the medical providers in Macau to ensure that they are all well-equipped and able to deal with emergency cases in order to meet today’s challenges.”

Other experts panelists include Dr. Tse Man Li, Dr. Chan Chi Keung, as well as the President of Hong Kong Society of Clinical Toxicology, Dr. Chan Yiu Cheung.

Local Macau medical educators will also present in this forum. They include Prof Gregory Cheung, consultant of University Hospital, MUST, and Dr. Chen Lai Leong, the Vice Executive Officer of Macau Society of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine and council member, Dr. Chang Tam Fei.

The workshops will be held at the Lecture Hall, Dr. Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation, 9/F, ICBC Building, Landmark, Macau on Saturday and Sunday the 27th and 28th September starting at 8:30 a.m.

This event is supported by the new National Health and Family Planning Commission, PRC, The Chinese Medical Doctors Association, as well as a list of outstanding healthcare organizations and Portuguese speaking associations in Macau.
