Hosted by Faculty of Humanities and Arts and co-organized by Macau Communication Association, the opening ceremony of Communication Week was held on March 18th at the auditorium of the library building. The officiating guests included Mr. Pu Hai Long, Vice Director of Culture and Education Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau S.A.R., Mr. Chan Chi Ping, Director of Macau Government Information Bureau, Mr. Fung Yuen Leung, Director of Foreign Trade Management Department, Macau Economic Services, Ms. Yiu Wai Ying, Director of Scholarship Department, Macau Foundation, Ms. Sit Fung Kiu, Director of Macau Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Ms. Wang On Kei, Marketing Director of China Daily (Hong Kong Version), Ms. Law Sung Man, Member of Board of Directors and Executive Committee, Macau Television, Mr. Chui Chi To, Deputy Chief Editor of Macau Daily, Mr. Cheung Fui Wai, President Assistant of Bank of China Macau Branch, Ms. Li Yin Yan, President of Macau Communication Association and Prof. Liu Liang, President of MUST.

Prof. Liu Liang introduced in his speech that there was a special theme for the Communication Week this year called “CommPlus”. It aimed to provide opportunities for students to apply the knowledge of Communication and Business, plan their business startups, and prepare for the future. He hoped that with the philosophy of “communication serves society”, the annual Communication Week would put the teaching and academic achievement into use and eventually promote the economic and social development in Macau.

Prof. Zhang Zhi Qing, Executive Vice Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Arts, introduced the activities of the Communication Week this year, including a series of lectures by experts on topics like the roles of media professionals on new media, the combination of communication and business startups, the examination and value experience of communication, the research of communication in China, and so on. The lectures provide the students a thorough introduction to the new media and enable them to reflect on their roles in this communication environment. In addition, as the highlight of the Communication Week, “The First Macau College Student New Media Plus Entrepreneur Competition”has attracted students from different colleges in Macau.

The unveiling ceremony for cooperation between Macau Communication Research Center and the national key research center – Center for Information and Communication Studies, Fudan University, was held later on the same day. It is hoped that the cooperation will promote academic sharing between the two centers so that they can take full advantage of their facilities to find out solutions to problems of different issues such as communication theories, politics, economics, and other social problems in Macau.

At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Huang Dan, Director of Center for Information and Communication Studies, Fudan University, and Mr. Yuan Zi Xin, founder of Guangzhou Bohua Investment Management Company Limited, gave speeches on “Communication and City”. In his speech, Prof. Huang emphasized that communication was not only the link of a city’s network systems, but also the connection and reconstruction of different social relations, and the promotion of a city’s cultures. The new relation between communication and city indicates that as an important part of the society, communication interacts with every element in a city.

Experts from different professions will be invited to give excellent lectures during the Communication Week. Macau college teachers, students and citizens are welcome to join the academic feast.
