Deputy Director General Guo Zhiwei of Department of Basic Research of National Ministry of Science and Technology Visits MUST

Deputy Director General Guo Zhiwei of the Department of Basic Research of the National Ministry of Science and Technology led a delegation on a visit to Macau University of Science and Technology on April 9 and 10, 2018. The delegation inspected the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines (Macau University of Science and Technology) (SKL) and the proposed-to-be-established State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Science.

On the first day of the visit, the delegation was warmly received by President Liu Liang, Vice President Jiang Zhi Hong, Dean Zhu Yi Zhun of the School of Pharmacy, Vice Dean Zhou Hua of the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, Assistant Director Wang Jing Rong,Assistant Director Leung Lai Han and Professor Yao Xiao Jun of the SKL, , and Director Liang Yong of the Research and Technology Administration Office. At the reception meeting, President Liu Liang noted that thanks to the great support by the national government to Macau in development of higher education, MUST was able to grow fast in the past 18 years; he then briefed the delegation on the academic development and faculty teams of the University. Afterwards, Vice President Jiang Zhi Hong gave a report on the construction plan and development of the SKL, including the research direction, research conditions and academic team-building of quality and innovative drugs research in Chinese medicine, as well as the achievements of other key research areas. Deputy Director General Guo affirmed the developmental philosophy and fast growth of MUST; the two parties exchanged views on development of science and technology projects.

Following the meeting, the guests were given a tour of the SKL. Other members of the delegation include Wu Cheng, Deputy Director General of China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC), Dong Zhi Feng, Deputy Director General of the China National Center for Biotechnology Development (CNCBD), Qiang Zhen Hong, inspector of the Department of Basic Research of the National Ministry of Science and Technology, Luo Qing, inspector of the Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs of the National Ministry of Science and Technology, Yu Shan Jiang, Director of the Policy Coordination Office of the CNCBD, Li Hang Qian, Project Manager of the Division of International Talents and Training of the CSTEC, Wang Tao, Project Manager of the Division of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao Affairs of the CSTEC, and IP Kuai Lam, Senior Manager of the Department of Science and Technology Research of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT).

On April 10, Deputy Director General Guo, joined by Chairman Ma Chi Ngai of the Administrative Committee of the FDCT and Mr. Cheang Kun Wai and Mr. Chan Wan Hei, committee members of FDCT, led the delegation on an inspection visit to the proposed-to-be-established State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Science; the delegation were warmly received by President Liu Liang, Vice President Jiang Zhi Hong, Advisor to Chancellor Xu Ao Ao, Director Chan Kwing Lam of the Lunar and Planetary Science Laboratory, Assistant Director Mei Bao of the Space Science Institute, Distinguished ProfessorZhang Ke Ke, Distinguished Professor Ip Wing Huen, and Distinguished ProfessorCui Jun of the Space Science Institute, and Director Liang Yong of the Research and Technology Administration Office. The three parties held discussions on science education and training of a younger generation of talents to do lunar and planetary research; afterwards, the delegation toured the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory of Macau University of Science and Technology – Partner Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Key Laboratory of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration, the Planetary Environment Simulation Laboratory, the Laboratory of Physic-Chemical Analysis of Astronomical Objects, the Asteroid Physics Laboratory, the Science Communication Center, the Cloud Technology Server Lab, and the Supercomputing Center of the Lunar and Planetary Science Laboratory.

Afterwards, Professor Chan Kwing Lam , gave a special report on the “State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Science” proposed to be established, including an introduction to the State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science– Planetary Remote Sensing Research, the purpose of setting up the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Science, and the existing foundation, main research directions and contributions to society. President Liu Liang extended thanks to the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and FDCT for their opinions and support, promising the University will continue to move forward science education in Macau and train more talents in the relevant areas.

The guests tour the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines (the Macau University of Science and Technology Partner Lab) and the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory – Partner Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Key Laboratory of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration
