Macau University of Science and Technology held the joint meeting of University Executive Committee and the University Administrative Committee on the afternoon of June 19th, at which President Liu Liang delivered the important instructions from President Xi Jinping again and instructed the University management as well as all faculties and research institutes to implement the spirit of President Xi’s instructions. Vice Presidents Tong Ka Lok, Pang Chuan, and Lin Zhiun, deans of all faculties, directors of research institutes, and office heads all attended the meeting.

President Liu Liang read out President Xi’s reply and the speeches of Mr. Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macao SAR, and Director Zheng Xiaosong, Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macao SAR. The expression “the demands of the country and the strengths of Macau” was mentioned in the speeches and should actually be seriously considered when we do our work at both the university level and the faculty level. President Liu Liang instructed the University’s leadership and management to adjust the University’s development needs, and therefore to formulate a new strategic plan. In the new era, new situation, the University needs a new way of thinking and new measures to implement the spirit of President Xi’s instructions.
President Liu Liang noted that MUST will further deliver the message progressively so that all members can deeply understand the spirit of President Xi’s instructions. The spirit will be studied and implemented through comprehensive review of the University’s strategic plan and optimizing the model of cultivating talents who love the country and Macau. The state-of-the-art new innovative science platforms will be established based on the advantages of the existing platforms. Specific plans will be sought to promote the industrial-academic collaboration in Macau, and to assist the moderate diversification and sustainable development of Macau economy and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. New educational modes will be studied so as to build a new and innovative science base.
Vice President Tong Ka Lok said with 18 years of educational experiences, the country has great expectations towards MUST. In recent years, MUST has embarked on the road to internationalization, but now we need to explore a new positioning, and we need creative thinking and innovative projects.
Vice president Pang Chuan said it opens a new chapter in the history of Macau tertiary education. He hoped that MUST could also contribute to the construction of the Greater Bay Area in humanities, arts as well as social sciences disciplines, which also responded to “the demands of Macau and the strengths of Macau”. All faculties and research institutes of MUST should know the spirit of President Xi’s instructions and break a new ground for Macau.
Vice President Lin Zhijun pointed out that besides deeply understand the spirit of President Xi’s instructions, it is more important to implement it in our daily work. The 2020 Strategic Plan should be adjusted. The strengths of MUST should be made best of; assisting the construction of the Greater Bay Area should be highlighted; teaching should be directed at fostering diverse compound talents with attachment to the family and nation, with creative and innovative spirit, and loving the motherland and Macau.

Heads of all faculties, research institutes and the library all spoke at the meeting, proposing some detailed plans on how to cultivate talents who love both the motherland and Macau, to produce more scientific research results, and assist the moderate diversification and sustainable development of Macau economy and the construction of the Greater Bay Area.
President Liu Liang pointed out that this meeting was only the first of a series of meetings to implement the instructions. It is hoped that inspired by President Xi’s care, encouragement and trust, MUST will be able to assist the development of Macau and the Greater Bay Area, and thus move a huge step forward.
