M.U.S.T. Library Held Symposium on Cooperation and Innovation in Science and Technology Information Service

“The 2nd Symposium on Cooperation and Innovation in Science and Technology Information Service between Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao” was held on November 8, 2018 at N108 of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.). Mr. Sou Chio Fai, Director of the Tertiary Education Services Office, Mr. Au Weng Chi, Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, Mr. Peng Yi Qi, Director of National Science and Technology Library, Prof. Chen Li, Former Vice President of Library of China and Chair Prof. Jiang Zhi Hong, Vice President of M.U.S.T., served as the officiating guests. During the event, Director Wang You Qiang of the Tsinghua University Library and Director Dai Long Ji of the M.U.S.T Library signed the cooperation contract. The two sides agreed to provide more information services, personnel training, academic exchanges and other services. The guests witnessed the successful launch of the M.U.S.T “Scholar Library”.

When addressing the ceremony, Vice President Jiang Zhi Hong of M.U.S.T. noted that the University rapid development is inseparable from the library's literature support. In the future, the M.U.S.T. Library should learn from the experience of other libraries in the four districts of the Cross-Strait, strengthen cooperation between Macao and the famous universities and libraries in the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, to conduct/attend the development of the University and reward Macao society, and assist M.U.S.T. contributions to the progress and development of Macao.

Mr. Au Weng Chi, the Executive Committee Member of the Macao Foundation also spoke at the event. Mr. Au noted that the provision of documents and services is an important guarantee for research and education and takes a vital part in promoting scientific research in Macao. It is a significant step to integrate into the national scientific development and the scientific cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. He also stated that the Macao Foundation will continue to support literature and service provisions, creating conditions for local education and scientific research progress.

Director Peng Yi Qi of the National Science and Technology Library (NSTL) introduced its recent key work and the latest changes in the science and technology cooperation policies between Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao. Mr. Peng suggested the continuing promotion of the cooperation between the National Science and Technology Library and M.U.S.T. Library.

Processor Chen Li, former deputy director of the National Library of China, reviewed the unique role of Macao in the Sino-Western cultural exchange history. He said that the M.U.S.T. Library not only provided guarantees for M.U.S.T. students and teachers but also provided many services for the Macao community. The National Library of China is willing to cooperate with the library communities of Macao, Hong Kong and Taiwan to inherit culture, promote civilization and make positive contributions to social development.

Associate University Librarian Zhao Xi Chen, introduced the progress of the M.U.S.T Scholars Hub, presented its construction process, main content and development plans for the future. Under the witness of the guests, Deputy Director Zhao clicked switch to launch the M.U.S.T. Scholars Hub, which is the result of the cooperation between the University Library and the Tsinghua University Library. It is first-class in terms of technical standards and data accuracy. It will greatly benefit the M.U.S.T. scientific research management capabilities.

University Librarian Dai Long Ji, said that after the event the participants proposed many pragmatic and innovative ideas and suggestions. On this basis, and with the support of the mainland literary institutions, libraries in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao can further strengthen cooperation and promote scientific and technological literature services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, while providing information support and guarantee for its construction.

More than 40 people attended the event, including those responsible for library services at the National Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Library of China, Peking University, Tsinghua University (Beijing), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sun Yat-Sen University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Tsing Hua University (Hsinchu), and other renowned university libraries and library service providers across the two straits, local university libraries, public libraries and experts.
