FHTM Signed LOU with CQUniversity Australia

Professor Bruce Prideaux, Director of Center for Tourism and Regional Opportunities, CQUniversity Cairns, came to Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) for a visit on March 6th to 7th, 2019. He signed the Letter of Understanding (LOU) with FHTM for further collaboration and delivered two lectures for FHTM students.

In the afternoon on March 7 th , Professor Bruce Prideaux received a warm welcome from Vice-President Pang Chuang, FHTM Associate Dean Ms. Chu Oi Mei and program director Dr. Zhang Yang. Vice-President Pang introduced the development of M.U.S.T. in the past 19 years and pointed out how it has always been striving towards the internationalization of teaching and research and the cultivation of professional talents with global perspectives. Professor Prideaux gave a brief introduction of the study areas of CQUniversity Cairns and all the cooperation projects their Center for Tourism and Regional Opportunities has had with universities and institutions around the globe. Both sides exchanged views on possible collaboration and reached consensus on the great cooperation potential in terms of joint education programs and academic conferences, and short-term exchange programs for both teachers and students. After the meeting, Vice-president Pang and Professor Prideaux signed the Letter of Understanding (LOU) for further collaboration.

Professor Prideaux also delivered lectures on “Destination Research frontier in next two decades” and “Moving into the future: trends that may affect development”. Professor Prideaux shared his views on how technology changes will impact the future of tourism destination, and what kind of opportunities and challenges will be encountered in the future. He also used climate change and artificial intelligence as examples to illustrate the influence of new technology on tourism development. In addition, Professor Prideaux explained how to conduct research and how to forecast the future trend in destination research. The atmosphere of the lectures was lively and pleasant, students learned new knowledge and also understood more clearly about the future development of tourism destination.

This LOU signing will help M.U.S.T. establish long-term collaborative relations with CQUniversity and therefore further develop the teaching and academic research at M.U.S.T.
