FHTM Teams Sweep Top Three Prizes at Macao Students Conference Challenge

FTHM teams won the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd places at the “2018/2019 Macao Tertiary Institution Students Conference Challenge”, held by Macau Convention & Exhibition Association on April 13, 2019. The top two teams will represent Macao to participate in “2019 Asia MICE Youth Challenge” in Manila, Philippines in October 2019. Their supervisors were Assistant Prof. Weng Chou Wong, Assistant Prof. Ye Xu, and Assistant Prof. Sut Ieng Lei respectively.

The Conference Challenge encourages students to think creatively and innovatively and thus bring in new elements and unique ideas to the MICE industry of Macao. This competition also enables students to practice what they have learned, enhances their organizational and analytical skills, and improves their teamwork spirit by demanding them to produce a feasible business proposal with concerted efforts. The top proposals should feature creativity, feasibility, and local characteristics, with cost control and cost-benefit balance, achieving high quality at a low cost.

Over 10 teams from various universities and colleges in Macao participated in the challenge this year. After the two rounds of competition-preliminary elimination and final presentation, the judging panel composed of influential local entrepreneurs and experts voted “the Smell of Macau - the Year of Gastronomy” proposal as the Champion, the 2^nd place went to the proposal of “2019 - the 1^st Year of Green Macau • Smart City”, and the 3^rd place were “AI Service - Forum of Macau AI and Hotel Development” proposal.

Through this conference challenge, students got opportunities to know about the practical operations in MICE industry, and apply the knowledge they learned into the practical business proposals. FHTM will actively encourage students to participate in other practical events and competitions, and cultivate talents who know how to combine theoretical knowledge with practice.
