M.U.S.T. and the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Signed Cooperation Agreement to
Promote Development of History as a Discipline in Macao

A delegation led by Mr. Gao Xiang, Vice President, Dean of the Institute of History, and Party Secretary of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), paid a visit to Macau University of Science and Technology in the morning of June 3, 2019. They were welcomed by Vice President Pang Chuan of M.U.S.T., Director Lin Guangzhi of the Institute for Social and Cultural Research (ISCR), Assistant Director Zhao Dianhong, and Dr. Yu Yuanyuan. The two parties engaged in a friendly exchange of views and then signed the cooperation agreement.

At the reception, Vice President Pang Chuan gave an introduction to the development of the University in its 19 years’ history. He noted that as a non-profit private university, M.U.S.T. was ranked 21st in the “2018 Ranking of Top Universities in Greater China” released by Shanghai Ranking. The University made great endeavors to bring in excellent faculty members from home and abroad, train patriotic talents who love China and Macao, and has published up to 300 papers in international journals every year. With the support of the Central Government, the University now owns two state key laboratories, and is determined to take humanities and social sciences further, especially in research and teaching of the history field. Vice President Gao gave an introduction about the work conducted by the Institute of History of the CASS since it was founded. He was greatly impressed with the development and accomplishments of M.U.S.T., affirmed the University’s endeavors to advance history as a discipline, and provided guidance and opinions on how to structure the history subject across the Macao S.A.R. universities. Afterwards, the cooperation agreement was signed, binding both parties to research efforts to promote Chinese history and culture integrated with patriotic values, to help Macao youths and students to understand the history, culture, traditions and the course of development of their motherland, to explore the cultural exchanges and the mutual learning experiences between the Chinese civilization and the western civilizations, to forward the research and development of Macao history and culture, and to cultivate history as a discipline at M.U.S.T. contributing to the new practices of the “One Country Two Systems”, to the formulation of the new China outlook to open up to the world in the new era, and to the long-term prosperity and stability of Macao.

Other members of the delegation include Mr. Ji Xiangde, General Secretary of the Supervising Committee of Chinese Local Chronicles and Director of Office of the Supervising Committee, Deputy Chen Yuwu, Deputy Director of the Research Administration Office of the Institute of History of the CASS, Li Chuyu, Head of the Office of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs of the CASS, Yang Haifeng, Head of the Chronicles Office of the Supervising Committee of the Chinese Local Chronicles, and Chen Le from the General Office of the CASS.
