The School of Architecture of Tsinghua University was founded in 1946 by the respectable architect Liang Sicheng. It has currently been the top architecture school in China with its three first-level disciplines namely architecture, urban and rural planning, and landscape architecture accredited as A+ in the education evaluation. The School of Architecture has gained international prestige in both teaching and academic research, and ranked 11th place in the QS 2020.

Meanwhile, Macao is known as a world cultural heritage city, with its distinctive essence of the collision and fusion between Chinese and Portuguese architectural cultures for over 450 years, forming the unique architectural education environment differentiated from the mainland. The Faculty of Humanities and Arts of M.U.S.T. has been the sole institution offering a doctoral degree in architecture in Macao. Furthermore, the faculty possesses composite advantages in interdisciplinary studies including humanities and arts disciplines in communication, designs, fine arts, film studies, etc. It has served Macao’s local needs with its solid research basis in the fields of urban and architectural design, cultural heritage protection, and urban renewal and revitalization.

The two universities will cooperate in the areas of teaching, cultural heritage protection, joint research funding application, industry-academia-research transformation, and exchange programs of faculty and students. Macao has been embracing new challenges and opportunities in the post-epidemic era. The cooperation between the two parties will cultivate more international talents for Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and provide academic supports for the urban development in the Greater Bay Area.
