Industry-Education-Research Demonstration Base Inaugurated in the Greater Bay Area
In alignment with the implementation and materialization of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to gear Macao toward a more active role in participating in the development of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, the Macau University of Science and Technology founded and, recently, inaugurated officially the first industry-education-research base within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) – Hengqin Macau University of Science and Technology Industry-Education-Research Demonstration Base. This base oversees the Zhuhai Macau Science and Technology Research Institute (headquarter), the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (branch), and the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences (branch), the three units hereafter referred collectively as “M.U.S.T. Industry-Education-Research Base”.

Industry-Education-Research Base on February 5, 2021. Secretary of the University Council of M.U.S.T. and Vice President Tong Ka Lok, Director Zhang Junhong for industry-education-research projects from the President’s Office, Director Wu Xiaoning for alumni affairs and project development from the President’s Office led the delegation headed by Director Zhang Ge on a tour of the Industry-Education-Research Innovation Achievements Exhibition Hall of M.U.S.T. and the office space of Zhuhai Macau University of Science and Technology Institute (headquarter), following which the two parties gathered at a meeting room to exchange views on matters of common interest.

At the meeting, the University presented the role-positioning and action plan of the M.U.S.T. Industry-Education-Research Base and inquired the Commerce Bureau about the relevant matching support policies. Director Zhang Ge acknowledged and gave recognition to the research outcomes displayed at the M.U.S.T. Industry-Education-Research Base, and affirmed that Hengqin New Area Commerce Bureau would give full support to its development, make proactive endeavors to drive enterprise-based, market-oriented transfer and transformation of research outcomes, and foster in-depth industry-education-research collaborations.

The M.U.S.T. Industry-Education-Research Base represents an important strategic step in the University’s deployment of its proactive efforts and plans to integrate the strengths of Macao and the Mainland in endeavors toward science and technology innovation, draw and unite high-end international innovation resources, and enable, in the mainland territory, transfer, and transformation of Macao’s achievements in science and technology innovation, research and development. It focuses mainly on three areas, life sciences, material engineering, and next-generation information technologies, and aims to empower research teams in pursuit of innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry-education-research collaborations and facilitate Macao’s integration into the general picture of national development with a larger volume of intellectual support and innovative outcomes.
On the same day, the vice presidents of M.U.S.T., joined by the departmental heads and administrative officers of the University, toured the M.U.S.T. Industry-Education-Research Base.
