“Mastering Hospitality” Seminar by Dr. Iwan Dietschi, MGM Senior Vice President of Hospitality

As part of M.U.S.T.’s 22nd Anniversary celebration, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) held the third session of “Seminars by Masters from Tourism Industry” on March 25, 2022, in D Hall. Dr. Iwan Dietschi, MGM Senior Vice President of Hospitality, was invited as the guest speaker and provided an insightful talk entitled “Mastering Hospitality.” Prof. Ben K. Goh, Dean of FHTM welcomed Dr. Dietschi and led the faculty members. More than 200 students attended this seminar.

Prof. Ben K. Goh delivered an opening speech and acknowledged Dr. Dietschi’s efforts in hospitality management and his remarkable achievements. Since the Tourism+ MOU was signed with MGM in December 2021, FHTM devoted to talent development and cultivation in the hospitality industry through cooperative efforts with MGM such as co-organizing seminars and academic competitions. This talk provided a good opportunity for students to learn hospitality management from a macro perspective based on Dr. Dietschi’s leadership experiences.

During the speech, Dr. Dietschi firstly introduced the main characteristics of being an effective leader. Then, he shared with the audience how he managed his career path, how he overcame the challenges in his career, and how to choose a company that values human capital and can help junior employees to develop professional skills. Dr. Dietschi encouraged students to always work with enthusiasm, to be creative at work, and to be open-minded in the face of environmental changes. All the audiences were deeply inspired by Dr. Dietschi’s talk.

In the Q&A session, students raised many questions about hospitality management and career planning in the hospitality industry. Dr. Dietschi was very friendly to answer all the questions by sharing his personal experiences and giving useful and constructive suggestions. FHTM and MGM will continue to strive for closer cooperation and organize more events in the near future. 

FHTM Teachers and Students Interacted with Guest Speaker

Being a native Swiss, Dr. Dietschi speaks fluent French, German, and English. Graduated from the world-renowned École Hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland, he received his Doctor of Business Administration from the College of Management and Technology at Walden University (USA), and his Executive MBA from California State University, Monterey Bay. He also published his first book titled “Mastering Hospitality” in 2021, which was built on his rich experiences in hospitality management.
