The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management Held a Lecture about the Managing Strategy at the Beijing Olympic Catering Service Project

The lecture “Managing Strategy at the Beijing Olympic Catering Service Project”, hosted by the Student Union of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM), was held in N211 on October 28, 2022. The guest lecturer was Prof. Jinlin Zhao, a visiting professor at the Macao University of Science and Technology and a tenured professor at Florida International University. Prof. Ben K. Goh, Dean of FHTM, Associate Professor Dr. Pai Chen Kuo, Assistant Professor Dr. Brenda Yang, Assistant Professor Dr. Christina Xu, Assistant Professor Dr. Selena Hong, Instructor Mr. Clark Teng, and more than 100 students attended the lecture.

Prof. Ben K. Goh gave a welcome speech to thank Prof. Jinlin Zhao for bringing this lecture and hoped that through it, students would have a deeper understanding of catering service management strategies and provide some help for students in future academic research on catering service projects for large-scale events.

Prof. Jinlin Zhao, the training manager of the catering project for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, an expert in human resources for the Guangzhou Asian Games, and a participant in the catering industry for three Olympic Games, vividly told the students about the relevant contents of the catering management and service strategies for the Olympic Games using the case study method. In the lecture, Prof. Jinlin Zhao started with his participation in the catering management team of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. After mastering first-hand materials, he successfully applied them to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He also explained the strategic management model of Olympic catering, as well as the election and training of volunteers. Prof. Jinlin Zhao encouraged students to work hard to improve themselves, so as to gain opportunities and face challenges. It is said that when there is a will, there is a way. At the end of the lecture, the students spoke enthusiastically and expressed their desire to take a group photo with Prof. Jinlin Zhao. Prof. Jinlin Zhao patiently answered the questions one by one and took a group photo with the students. The entire event lasted about two hours and came to a successful close.
