Seminar on “Hospitality Industry Trends and Sustainable Value Creation” by Dr. Dominic Szambowski, Dean of Swiss Hotel Management School

To celebrate the 23rd anniversary of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.), the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM), Dr. Dominic Szambowski, Dean of Swiss Hotel Management School was invited as the guest speaker and provided an insightful lecture entitled “Hospitality Industry Trends and Sustainable Value Creation”. Prof. Ben K. Goh, Dean of FHTM, Program Director Dr. Feng Yan, Program Director Prof. Wong Weng Chou, and more than 200 teachers and students attended the seminar.

Swiss Hotel Management School (SHMS) is ranked 3rd in the QS World Ranking of Hospitality and Leisure Management. Dr. Dominic Szambowski, Dean of the Swiss Hotel Management School (SHMS), holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Sydney and has held key leadership roles in several higher education institutions. Prior to joining SHMS, he served as President and CEO of the International College of Management Sydney, Vice Chancellor & Chief Executive of BERJAYA University College of Hospitality in Malaysia, President of INTI International College Subang, and Executive Dean of INTI International University & Colleges Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Tourism (Malaysia), among others. He has published several academic papers such as The Reality Approach to Educating Hospitality Managers: An Australian Model.

Dr. Dominic Szambowski Gave a Lecture

During the lecture, Dr. Szambowski explained the global implications and current trends of a changing business environment in relation to the wider hospitality and tourism industry and the strategic options to address these challenges. With the notion that corporate sustainable responsibility became mature and considering the fast-moving developments of the concept itself, the lecture also re-orientated the sustainable issues by focusing on personal responsibility towards worldwide sustainable challenges.

In the Q&A session, students raised many questions about hospitality management and career planning in the hospitality industry. Dr. Szambowski was very friendly to answer all the questions by sharing his personal experiences and giving useful and constructive suggestions. Through this lecture, students developed a critical awareness of the range of challenges facing one of the most dynamic, unpredictable, and fast-changing industry sectors in the world.
