Research Team from Faculty of Information Technology of MUST Firstly Got the Grant of A US Patent

Professor Jianqing LI, from Faculty of Information Technology of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and his Ph.D student Ben Xu got the grant of a US patent recently, which is the first one in MUST. The patent title is "Method of Generating Raman Laser for Inducing Fluorescence of Fluoranthene and A System Thereof." This patent invention provides a method of making stable, low-cost, high intensity Raman laser for inducing fluorescence of fluoranthene, which overcomes the existing technical limitations. Fluoranthene is a type of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which hardly degrades in natural environment, lasts for a long period of time and exhibits carcinogenicity, mutagenicity and teratogenicity. This patent has important implications for the detection of PAHs. The patent is part of the research results of Prof. Jianqing Li's project “Research on mechanisms and applications of in-line all-fiber sensors” (No.: 0289) supported by The Science and Technology Development Fund of Macao. In the most recent years, the team led by Prof. Jianqing Li received a number of granted Australian innovation patents, a Chinese invention patent and a US patent in the field of optical sensing and detection, these academic achievement shows the team has made remarkable progress and has enormous potential in future research and development.
