Art Troupe of MUST Won Four Golds, Six Silvers and One Bronze in the 7th International Youth Arts Festival, 2014

Sponsored by International Music Education Association, International Youth Arts Communication Association, World Chinese Art Education Association and hosted by Guangdong Organizing Committee of International Youth Arts Festival, the 7th International Youth Arts Festival was held on July 2014 in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The festival was also assisted by many organizations, such as Organizing Committee of Kuala Lumpur International Music Master class, Rachmaninoff Music Academy, Robbiano Arts Communication Association, University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, UK Art Promotion Association.

The judges from different countries were invited to the event, including Dr. Peter Brugger, principal of Bad Goisern Music School, Austria; Valerie Gligorov, Malaysian pianist from Australia; Roeland Duijine, cellist from Netherland; Ms. Shui Wenjun, assistant professor of Taipei Hwa Kang Arts School and Tainan National University of the Arts;Mr. Wong Kin Wai, chairman and artistic director of Macao Juvenile Group of Guzheng Arts; Ms. Samantha Chiang, artistic director of Art Troupe of MUST (Macau University of Science of Technology), and so on.

Eleven students from MUST took part in different competitions during the festival, such as the orchestra, the Chinese orchestra, Chinese folk dance, and master of ceremonies. Although it was the first time the Art Troupe of MUST participated in a big artistic event like this, it did exceedingly well, winning four golds, six silvers and one bronze. Erhu solo “Yubei Ballad” by Chen Shiwei, yangqin solo “Lin Chong Flees in The Night” by Zhao Xi, violin solo “Zigeunerweise” by Yu Shiyi and solo dance “Grass in The Water” by Fang Ruirong received the gold awards. The silver winners were Zhang Wenshuo for his snare drum solo “Drum Solo Aarhus”, Sun Longyu for his pipa solo “Love for Wei River (Wei Shui Qing)”, Pan Bohuang for the solo “Funeral March”, and Huang Zhipeng, Mao Zhewen and Zhao Danmeng for their violin solos: “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso”, “Lalo Symphonie Espagnole”, and “Carmen Fantasy”. Xie Xinyu won the bronze award for her excellent performance in the competition of master of ceremonies.

Being a stage for college students of Macao to show their artistic attainments, the festival facilitated the cultural and art exchanges between the Art Troupe of MUST and international art groups, and provided the students with a great opportunity to learn and thrive.
