On the afternoon of November 13, Vice Chairman Chen Zhu of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress visited Macau University of Science and Technology. He was warmly welcomed by Chancellor Liu Chak Wan, President Liu Liang, Standing Vice President Zhang Shu Guang, Vice President Chen Xi, Vice President Tong Ka Lok and other university principals.

At the meeting, President Liu Liang extended the warmest welcome and most sincere thanks to Vice Chairman Chen Zhu for his visit to the University. President Liu Liang then presented an all-round introduction to the University’s history and development, the characteristics and overall situations of each faculty, the University’s educational scale, the University’s student admission work, and other aspects, attaching great emphasis to the key areas of the University’s research strengths and the research directions and achievements of the University’s laboratories; he particularly pointed out the fact that such achievements would not have been made were it not for the great support of the Central Government. The vice presidents of MUST also respectively made introductions to the University’s academic affairs, international exchanges, campus development, and other areas. Vice Chairman Chen Zhu noted that he was delighted to hear the development and achievements of MUST, and, in particular, he gave full recognitions to the University’s policy of dual-emphasis on both teaching and research and its strategy of developing excellent education and outstanding research. The vice chairmanalso hoped that the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines would spend more efforts on multi-center clinical studies, metabolomics, and cultural researches of Traditional Chinese Medicines.

Afterwards, the delegation led by Vice Chairman Chen Zhu paid a visit to the Space Science Institute. Prof. Tang Ze Sheng, Academic Advisor of the University made an introduction to the overall development of Space Science Institute and the work progress of its new science education program of entering school campuses; the vice chairman also had a closer look at China’s first three-dimensional image of the entire lunar surface, which is owned by the institute. The guests also paid a visit to the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines; after hearing the introductions made by President Liu Liang and other research staffs of the State Key Lab, the vice chairman gave high praises to the laboratory’s research facilities and standards, and particularly pointed out that the laboratory not only owned first-class research technology and platforms, but also was equipped with an excellent international academic team. He also gave high regards to the State Key Laboratory for its commitments and efforts of serving the Macau public.

Other guests of the delegation included Yan Zhao Zhu, former Director of the Culture Research Bureau of the Policy Research Office of CPC Central Committee and Chairman of World Cultural Forum (Taihu, China), and XU, Kai Cheng, Chairman of Board, Nam Kwong (Group) Co. Ltd.
