  1. Study Requirements
  2. Students are required to complete 1 core course and 4 elective courses to gain 15 credits (1st– 2nd semester), 2 other core courses, including Literature Survey and Thesis Proposal (1st - 3rd semester) and Academic Activities (1st – 6th semester) to gain 4 credits, as well as complete Dissertation to gain 18 credits. (3rd - 6th semester)
  3. Students must complete the core courses and elective courses related to the dissertation’s research topic, pass the assessments and reach passing grades. Once the proposal report has been approved, students can start their dissertation writing by following the faculty's instructions.The length and format of the dissertation should follow the guidelines given by the School of Graduate Studies.
  4. Generally, to be qualified as a doctorate candidate, a student is required to publish at least 1 SCI-index journal paper as the first author (Macau University of Science and Technology is the first unit). If not, only the qualification is examined and recommended by his/her supervisor and evaluated by the examination committee of the institute, can apply for oral defense.
  5. Students must attend at least ten academic activities during study.
  6. The dissertation should pass the assessment and be defended successfully.

VII. Study Time

The duration for taking all courses is 12 months and the duration for thesis writing is 24 months.
Classes will generally be scheduled at night (19:00-22:00) on weekdays or weekends.

VIII. Graduation Requirements

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, a Doctoral Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has:

  1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding dissertation)
  2. Abided by the regulations of the University
  3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed
