Undergraduate Students from M.U.S.T. Won the Second Prize at the 2022 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling

Recently, the awards ceremony for the 2022 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling was held at Shandong University. The undergraduate students Xinyu Xie, Siyi Chen, and Xi He from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering of M.U.S.T., with the guidance of Prof. Zhanchuan Cai, won the Second Prize. The 2022 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling attracted a total of 1606 universities and college campuses from China, U.K., Malaysia, and other countries, with a total of 54,257 teams, and more than 160,000 students participated. The School of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering of M.U.S.T., established a mathematical modeling guidance team, providing students with specialized training lectures and pre-competition guidance.

The Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling is organized by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. It aims to inspire students’ enthusiasm for learning mathematics and improve their comprehensive abilities to establish mathematical models and solve practical problems using computer technology. The competition requires teams with each three undergraduate students to complete all the work, from finding solutions, establishing models, solving, and verifying to writing papers for a problem within three days, which embodies the students’ abilities in studying problems, finding solutions, and teamwork spirits. Currently, the competition has become the largest-scale nation-wide university contest in basic subjects and the world’s largest-scale mathematical contest. It is also one of the first 19 competitions included in the “University Discipline Competition Rankings”.
