The 1st Legal Forum of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was Held in Macau University of Science and Technology

The 1st Legal Forum of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was jointly hosted by Macau Legal System Research Association, Macau University of Science and Technology, Legal Theory and Legal Practice Research Center of Sun Yat-Sen University and Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies in the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  The forum was held in Macau University of Science and Technology on 11 October 2019.

The forum was inaugurated by the representatives of Legislative Assembly of Macau, Federation of Macau Legal Workers, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Legal Department, National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, Macau Special Administrative Region Basic Law Committee Research Office, Macao SAR Legal Affairs Bureau, University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, Legal Theory and Legal Practice Research Center of Sun Yat-Sen University and Macau Legal System Research Association.

Pang Chuan, the Vice Principal of M.U.S.T., pointed out in the speech that China has made remarkable achievements in the world in the past 70 years.  Since the Handover Day of Macau SAR for 20 years, it has adhered and carried through the principle of “One Country, Two Systems”.  In September, Times Higher Education announced the latest World Universities ranking in 2020, M.U.S.T. was ranked 274 and this was the first time that M.U.S.T. was listed.  M.U.S.T. was the first established International private research university after the Handover Day of Macau.  In the past years since M.U.S.T. was found, it strived to nurture professional talents in different fields, especially in Law.  Faculty of Law was one of the four founding faculties when the university was established and it endeavors to nurture the law talents with its mission and goal: “Rooted in Macau, geared towards the International, multiculturalism and nurturing legal talents”.  Looking forward to the experts and scholars to provide and share their valuable opinions of legislation and measure policy of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development and collaborations.

Scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau were invited to this forum.  Discussing the governance and development of “Country, Special Administrative Region and Bay Area”.  The discussion was divided into two parts which were “Country theory and Special Administrative Region governance” and “Bay Area construction and Special Administrative Region development”.

Associated Professor Tu Kai from Tsinghua University School of Law; Associated Professor Yin Taifu from School of Political Science and Public Administration; Associated Professor Zhu Shihai from Faculty of Law in M.U.S.T.; Associated Professor Cao Xudong from Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies in Sun Tat-sen University; Dr. Chow Man Kong, Deputy Director of Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute (PSEI), Lingnan University and China Economic Research Programme and Lawyer, Ho Ka Hou were shared their opinions and views of law issues in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area respectively.
