“Social Governance and Justice in the Age of AI Networks”by Professor Ji Weidong

The 17th Shizi Gate Master Lecture was held on 23 October.  This time, the Faculty of Law has invited Professor Ji Weidong who is the Dean of China Institute for Socio-Legal Studies Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the speaker.  The topic of that day was “Social Governance and Justice in the Age of AI Networks”.  This lecture was hosted by Faculty of Law, Macau University of Science and Technology and were jointly sponsored by Macao Foundation and Macau University of Science and Technology Foundation.

Professor Ji began the lecture with the controversy and experience of “Computer Sentencing” which piloted by the court that more than ten years ago.  He shared his stances and views about the application of AI in trial and legal services, AI and legal profession, AI and China’s Judicial reform, etc.  He also expounded the theories of the scholars, H•L•A Hart、Lon Fuller、Gerhard Struck, regarding to the characteristics of AI networked society, the basic principle and methods of AI network social governance, the consensus on AI research and development principles and policies, etc.  Furthermore, Professor Ji pointed out that China should strengthen the research on legal issues which related to the AI, and should clarify the relevant principles, policies, ethical norms as soon as possible.
