Law Faculty and Students Won Two Awards in the Final Round of the 5th National Students Event “Learn and Speak about the Constitution”

From November 28 to December 1, 2020, the final round of the 5th national students event, “Learn and Speak about the Constitution”, was held at the Jiuhua International Convention and Exhibition Center in Beijing. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education and hosted by the National Youth Education Center for the Rule of Law of Beijing Foreign Studies University. Gan Xianzhong, a first year undergraduate student of the Faculty of Law, represented the college students of Macao and participated in the event in Beijing. He was awarded the Second Prize in the individual category of the university group, and his coach, Assistant Professor Zhou Ting of the Faculty of Law also won the Second Prize in the outstanding instructor category.

The event was carried out in various forms such as keynote speeches, impromptu speeches and knowledge competitions, aiming to guide young students to study the Chinese Constitution, enhance their constitutional awareness and promote the spirit of the Constitution. Participants are from 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, including all stages of school ranging from primary and secondary schools to colleges and universities. After rounds of selection, 262 competitors from 34 teams across the country gathered in Beijing on November 28, 2020 to participate in the final round of the 5th year’s competition.

After being selected by the Macao regional organization, Gan Xianzhong, a student of the Faculty of Law, represented the college students of the Macao Special Administrative Region to participate in the elimination round of “36 to 16” held in the morning of November 29th. The title of his first speech was “‘One Country Two Systems’ Taking Root, and the Dream of the People along the Hao River Becoming True”. During the next round of impromptu speech competition held on the morning of December 1, Gan delivered a speech titled “the Turning Point in My Sister’s Destiny”, telling how his relatives’ life had changed due to the implementation of the constitutional law by the SAR government. Eventually, he was awarded the Second Prize in the university group.
