On April 23, 2021, at 9:30 a.m., the fifty-third session (the third session of the 2020-2021 academic year) of the Faculty of Law of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) Law Forum was successfully held in the N101 Lecture Hall. The event was organized by the Faculty of Law MUST and sponsored by the Macau Foundation and Macau University of Science and Technology Foundation.

Dean Fang Quan of the Faculty of Law, as well as more than 100 students and faculty members of the Faculty of Law, participated in the forum.

The forum invited Dean Shen Weixing of the School of Law, Tsinghua University, Dean Fu Hualing of Faculty of Law, the University of Hong Kong, Dean Ye Jinqiang of School of Law, Nanjing University School of Law, Dean Zhang Liang of School of Law, Sun Yat-sen University, Dean Jin Keke of the School of Law, East China University of Political Science and Law, Dean Chu Beiping of the School of Law, Dalian Maritime University , and Dean Chen Yunliang of the School of Law, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Foreign Trade to talk about legal education, online or offline.

The first theme of "Legal Education and Legal Careers" was hosted by Dean Shen Weixing of the School of Law, Tsinghua University and this session was addressed by Dean Jin Keke of the School of Law, East China University of Political Science and Law, Dean Ye Jinqiang of the School of Law, Nanjing University, and Dean Chu Beiping of the School of Law, Dalian Maritime University. Dean Jin Keke expressed his views on some issues of legal education, emphasizing that the core skills of cultivating legal professionals should focus on the techniques of interpretation and application of legal provision, and a combination of theoretical system and case study training. Dean Ye Jinqiang of the School of Law, Nanjing University discussed the mode of cultivating legal professional skills in mainland universities and suggested that students should improve their understanding of legal theories, pay attention to systematic legal training, and appropriately complement it with "simulation" practice during their college years. Dean Chu Beiping of the School of Law, Dalian Maritime University presented the innovation and practice of the "elemental" foreign-related and maritime-related rule of law talents cultivation model in the new liberal arts era, raising the problems and proposing the objectives of the current foreign-related and maritime-related legal education.

Dean Fang Quan of the Faculty of Law MUST chaired the second theme “cross-border legal talent cultivation”. The panel included Dean Zhang Liang of the School of Law, Sun Yat-sen University, Dean Fu Hualing of the Faculty of Law, the University of Hong Kong and Dean Chen Yunliang of the School of Law, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Foreign Trade. Dean Zhang Liang addressed the issue of legal talent cultivation in the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area, making an example of "all-English teaching experimental class", "model court project” in the School of Law, Sun Yat-sen University, and calling for the cultivation of excellence in legal talent rooted in the Area. Dean Fu Hualing took the question of whether Chinese common law is possible, advocating for more cross-broader communication and learning between faculty members and students in universities. Dean Chen Yunliang made a proposal for diversified exchanges, focusing on how to cultivate legal talents for foreign affairs.

The second theme “cross-border legal talent cultivation”.

During the interactive session, students asked a variety of questions to the deans of law schools from the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau. The whole forum lasted for nearly three hours, closed with enthusiastic responses.
