Ms. Wang Shuguang, Deputy Director of the Office of the Macao Basic Law Committee, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, visited the School of Law

10 July 2021, Ms. Wang Shuguang (Deputy Director of the Office of the Macao Basic Law Committee, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress) and Mr. Zeng Junrong (Department Head) visited the School of Law. Dean Professor Fang Quan, Dr. Xie Gengliang (Programme Director), Dr. Bi Jingwei (Programme Director) and Dr. Zhou Ting (Assistant Professor) were also present at the reception.

Dean Professor Fang Quan expressed her warm welcome to the visit of Ms. Wang and gave a detailed introduction to the Faculty of Law, including the overall scale, teaching characteristics, academic research, and cooperation platform, with a focus on the teaching arrangement of Constitution and Basic Law and related the research. She pointed out that in the past 21 years since its establishment, the Faculty of Law has gradually developed a faculty that understand Macao, are passionate on the research of the Constitution and the Basic Law, and actively contribute to the rule of law and legal reform in Macao.

Ms. Wang Shuguang introduced that the Office of the Macao Basic Law Committee, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (SCNPC) is an internal body of the Macao Basic Law Committee, SCNPC, and one of the tasks is to promote the implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" in the S.A.R. and the research of implementation of the Basic Law provisions. She said that the study of the Basic Law provides important theoretical guide to the practice of "One Country, Two Systems", and that academics living in Hong Kong and Macau have a deeper and more sincere understanding of the implementation of the Basic Law. For this reason, she expressed her wish to strengthen ties and cooperation with the Faculty of Law of the Macau University of Science and Technology and jointly promote research on the Basic Law of Macau.

The two parties discussed the implementation, upholding, and research of the Basic Law since the return of Macao. The two parties reached a consensus that they will strengthen exchanges and cooperation and jointly promote legal research and legal development in Macao.
