The Faculty of Law Successfully Held Two Orientation Meetings for Undergraduates in September

The Faculty of Law successfully held two undergraduate orientations online in September with the theme of “Guidelines of studies on Law for Undergraduates” and “ Research-based Study and Moot Court Competitions”. More than one hundred new undergraduate students attended the activities.

Hosted by Program Director Xie Geng Liang, the seminar “Guidelines of studies on Law for Undergraduates” was held online at 19:00 pm on 5th September 2021, which aims at introducing study plan of Bachelors Degree Program 2021/2022 for freshmen in the Faculty of Law and providing instructions for study and on-campus life, helping students to smoothly integrate into the new life in MUST. On the seminar, Assistant Professor Xie explained the study plan, optional courses, career development, practical skills, language abilities, learning aids, literature resources, and students activities in detail. He also introduced abundant academic activities and student competitions held by the Faculty of Law, encouraging students to cherish their time and improve their own professional skills and comprehensive ability by making good use of various resources.

Hosted by Assistant Professor Zhong Wen Cai and Assistant Professor Wang Jia presented as a keynote speaker, the Seminar “Research-based Study, and Moot Court Competitions” was held online at 19:00 pm on 8th September 2021. Assistant Professor Wang introduced the concept of research-based study to the new undergraduate students, emphasizing the distinctiveness of studying in university and urging students to play active roles in their studies. Assistant Professor Wang encouraged students to take leading roles in setting personalized study goals, find out the problems and reasonably manage their time, and make the best use of resources and teamwork. After that, Assistant Professor Wang analyzed how to improve the ability of research-based study by moot court competition. She hoped that students would clarify their goals of participating in competitions and joining study clubs with consideration of their own backgrounds. They should flexibly use what they have learned to identify the entry point and creatively solve the problems in competitions, improving the ability of research-based study and working out practical problems with interdisciplinary thinking. Assistant Professor Zhong shared his experiences of participating in and instructing moot courts, encouraging students to actively join in competitions, seizing all the chances in the MUST. In the last step, the two teachers answered questions raised by students online and the activity successfully ended in a lively atmosphere.
