Students of the Faculty of Law Participated in 2022 “Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition”

The M.U.S.T team participated in the 20th China’s Qualification Trial and the first round of global competition of“Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition” on line in Moot Court, Tower R in March, 2022. The team of our faculty consisted of postgraduate students Wu Shi Yi, Wu Jun Lin and undergraduates Deng Hai Yang, Yuan Qian, Assistant Professor Wang Jia and Assistant Professor Zhong Wen Cai worked as the instructors.

Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition was founded by International Law Students Association in 1959. The competition, known as the “Olympics”of international legal community, is the largest moot court competition with the longest history around the world. Hosted by Law School of Renmin University of China, the 2022 China’s Qualification Trial has attracted 56 teams from universities all over the country and global competition has gathered more than 100 teams from first-class law schools around the world. This is the first time that MUST Law Faculty teamed up and competed in this prominent global event and the MUST team is also the only team from Macao S.A.R. As a part of the Faculty’s innovative teaching modes which is based on international litigation, arbitration and negotiation, there is no doubt that participating in such kinds of authoritative international competitions and accumulating precious experience would be beneficial to achieve the goal of nurturing cross-border legal talents of our faculty.

The MUST team has started preparation work since the competition topics were announced by the organizing committee in September 2021 and has submitted complete legal instruments of the two sides. The MUST team presented the court debate in March. The whole competition lasted more than seven months. The member of MUST team are selected from the competition workshop. After searching and studying a number of Chinese and English literature, the four members of MUST team have completed English legal instruments with more than 20,000 words. Two postgraduates took on all tasks of court debates , including the four sessions of China’s Qualification trial from March 4 to March 8 and the four sessions of the first round of global competition on March 25 and March 27. The team members’ research abilities, court debate skills and legal English have been improved in the competition. In addition, they also shared profound friendship.
