On the afternoon of April 21, 2023, a legal lecture titled "New Concepts in Criminal Defense" was successfully held at Room N316 of the University Library, organized by the Faculty of Law at the M.U.S.T. Lawyer Zhu Mingyong was invited as the keynote speaker for the lecture.
Lawyer Zhu Mingyong is the founder of the Criminal Defense Research Center at China University of Political Science and Law, the Vice Dean and Master's Supervisor of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Criminal Defense at Northwest University of Political Science and Law, the Director of Beijing Jingmen Law Firm, and the inaugural Executive Council Member of the Case Law Research Association of the China Law Society. Over 150 law students from the Faculty of Law participated in the lecture.

In the beginning of the lecture, Assistant Professor Mou Xiaobo, the curriculum director of the Faculty of Law, presented a commemorative gift on behalf of the university to Lawyer Zhu Mingyong as a token of gratitude. During the lecture, Lawyer Zhu Mingyong, drawing from his extensive experience as a criminal defense attorney, introduced the "immersive defense" and "micro-carving defense" as new concepts in criminal defense. Through vivid explanations of numerous cases, Lawyer Zhu helped the students gain a clearer understanding that lawyers should strive to ignore external influences and focus more on the cases themselves. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance for defense lawyers to pay attention to micro-carving defense, criminal policies, and grasp the bigger picture in order to excel in their work.
Subsequently, Lawyer Zhu also highlighted that there are still many significant issues in criminal defense in China that have not been thoroughly researched, including situations where judges interpret legal provisions inaccurately. He proposed the establishment of criminal defense research institutions and institutes at various locations and universities. Lawyer Zhu also emphasized that as criminal defense attorneys, they should tirelessly fight for justice in each individual case and strive for excellence in every defense.
Towards the end of the lecture, Lawyer Zhu actively engaged in discussions with the teachers and students, addressing their inner concerns and providing enthusiastic answers. Finally, Program Director Mou Xiaobo delivered a concluding speech, expressing gratitude to Lawyer Zhu and highlighting the practical significance of the lecture, which greatly benefited the attending students. The lecture lasted for nearly three hours, creating a strong academic atmosphere, with every seat occupied.
