On the afternoon of September 7, 2023, the Faculty of Law at MUST held its New Student Orientation for the 2023/2024 academic year at the auditorium of Block D. The event was attended by Professor Fang Quan, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Cao Xia, Professor Yi ZaiCheng, Professor Zhu Shihai, Associate Professor Wang Chuanhui, Assistant Professor and Program Director Xie Gengliang, Assistant Professor and Program Director Bi Jingwei, Assistant Professor and Program Director Mou Xiaobo, Assistant Professor Peng Yunpeng, Assistant Professor Zhu Feng, Assistant Professor Dai Mengliang, Assistant Professor Xue Wenchao, Assistant Professor Zhou Ting, Assistant Professor Xiao Huina, Assistant Professor Zhang Chuanqi, Assistant Professor Wong Wengkuok, Assistant Professor Zhou Qin, Assistant Professor Wang Wanli, Assistant Professor Chen Qin, Assistant Professor Wang Chao, Assistant Professor Liao Si, and Assistant Professor Guo Yiting. The ceremony was also attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. Lao Chakkuong, President of the Faculty of Law Alumni Association, and Mr. Chang Sanchi, Chairman of the Board of Directors. More than two hundred undergraduate and graduate students from the Class of 2023 participated in the event.

During her speech, Dean Fang Quan welcomed the new students on behalf of the Faculty of Law. She urged the students to understand that as legal professionals, their role is to uphold justice between regulations and facts, and between logic and reason. She emphasized that from the very beginning of their enrollment, the new students must contemplate, answer, and act upon the question of what kind of legal professionals they want to become. Finally, Dean Fang expressed her hope that the new students would fully engage in their studies and embrace their lives at the Faculty of Law of the M.U.S.T., and that they would experience a fulfilling and passionate journey in their legal careers.

Assistant Professor Zhou Qin, as the faculty representative, delivered an uplifting speech. He encouraged the students at Macau University of Science and Technology's Faculty of Law to embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement. Assistant Professor Zhou emphasized the importance of reading to expand their knowledge and find their own "legal theories." He urged the students to engage in critical thinking to shape their values, life perspectives, worldview, and legal principles. With a humble and grateful heart, he encouraged them to embrace all that life has to offer, discerning between good and evil, and continuously growing.

Furthermore, undergraduate student representative Chen Junda shared the three keywords that define his vision of university life: responsibility, learning, and mission. He expressed his anticipation for all students to collectively strive for the prosperity of the legal profession and the progress of society, while pursuing their individual dreams in the field of law.

Postgraduate student representative Jian Yueqi expressed her determination to become a qualified legal professional, wielding the sword of law and upholding the scales of justice—a dream shared by every law student. The life and learning experience at Macau University of Science and Technology are filled with possibilities. Jian Yueqi hoped that each student would run with passion, face the unknown with courage, and live up to their own expectations.

Professor Peng Yunpeng provided an explanation to the new students about the university's "class mentor" system, the Faculty of Law's rich academic competitions and activities. He also introduced the outstanding achievements of past student competitions and the specially established "Alumni Scholarship" at the Faculty of Law. Professor Peng encouraged the students to devote themselves to learning, enhance their academic literacy, actively participate in activities to improve their comprehensive abilities, and strive to become well-rounded students with both academic excellence and moral character during their time at the university.

Student Union President Li Yichen introduced to the new students that the Faculty of Law Student Union is a student-run organization dedicated to serving the Faculty of Law. They maintain close communication with the university, the college, and the faculty members, wholeheartedly serving the college and fellow students. They eagerly encourage the new students to actively join the Student Union and experience a wonderful university life.

In the past academic year of 2022/2023, many students in the Faculty of Law enthusiastically participated in college activities, willingly served their fellow students, and actively took part in both internal and external competitions, making outstanding contributions to the work and honor of the college. During the welcome ceremony, Dean Fang Quan presented commendation certificates to students who demonstrated excellence in both academics and active involvement in college activities and academic competitions, as well as assisting in college work and serving their fellow students.
