April 6, Professor Zhang Mujin, former Vice-Chancellor of Tsinghua University gave a talk on "building a strong scientific and technological innovation and training the innovative talents " at Macau University of Science and Technology. Prof. Lin Zhijun, Dean of School of Business, Prof. Dai Longji, University Librarian, Professor Chan Lai Kow, Director of Institute for Sustainable Development, Ms. Lo Sut Ieng, Faculty Secretary of Business School, Associate Professor Song Yannan and students from Business School attended the lecture.

Professor Zhang Mujin was the Vice-Chancellor of Tsinghua University, Director of the Department of Social Sciences, and the Education Counselor of Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, USA. He is the Honorary Vice President of China Association of Old Professors, Professor of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Tsinghua University and Consultant of Contemporary China Research Center of Hong Kong Shue Yan University.
Professor Zhang Mujin started with the target of China becoming a leading power in science and technology outlined by President Xi Jinping and the current situation of China's scientific and technological development, he elaborated on the necessity of building an innovation-oriented country for China's independent development and national security, and also the need for China to build a new road to industrialization and achieve green development, the national competitiveness. And Professor Zhang emphasized that higher education institutions should recognize the importance of implementing innovation strategy and building up innovative capacity, actively participate in scientific and technological innovation, update the educational concept, cultivate more high-quality innovative talents to support the national innovation-driven development.
At the same time, Professor Zhang pointed out that the key to building an innovation-oriented country lying in the cultivation of innovative talents by the examples of the outstanding masters, such as Liang Sicheng, Qian Xuesen, Hua Luogeng, Deng Jiaxian, Guo Yonghuai, Yuan Longping, Ji Xianlin, Sun Yefuan etc. through the book of "Master Style" edited by The Association of Chinese Old Professors. Professor Zhang said the innovative talents should have characters of ardent love for the motherland, have the ideals for the benefit of humanity's lofty, set up the correct value orientation; courage to innovate, keep pace with the times; think dialectically, practice to test truth; syncretize the different culture; pursuit the goals with perseverance and persistence; indifferent to the fame and fortune, selfless dedicated.
At the end of the lecture, Prof. Zhang Mujin also congratulated Macao University of Science and Technology on the achievements of scientific and technological innovation, and cultivated high-quality innovative talents for the Macau SAR, for the mainland China and the world's development, thus will make greater contributions.
