The final of the 9th Chinese College Student Competition on Energy Economics, organized by the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economical Mathematics, was successfully concluded on May 20, 2023 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. A total of 6,148 teams from 423 universities across the country registered for the competition, with over 12,000 participating students and more than 7,000 guidance teachers. The competition is divided into three levels: school-level, regional-level, and national-level. In the end, 31 competition areas recommended 720 works to enter the national competition.
Zuxu Chen, a 2022 master's student in Finance at the Business School, Macau University of Science and Technology, Yueyang Li, a 2021 Ph.D. candidate in Urban and Regional Economics at the Institute of Sustainable Development, and Zhaocheng Li, a 2020 Ph.D. candidate in Management at the Business School, completed their research paper "Analysis and Countermeasures of the Contaminant Reduction Effects under COVID-19 in China" under the guidance of Associate Professor Song Yu from the School of Business. Their work won the second prize in the national competition. By constructing a comprehensive evaluation system for contaminant emissions, the work fully measures the impact of COVID-19 on environmental contaminants and provides a theoretical reference for formulating environmental protection policies, which reflects the excellent talent and innovative spirit of M.U.S.T students in the field of academic research.
The Chinese College Student Competition on Energy Economics is a national-level competition organized by the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economical Mathematics, aimed at better serving the cultivation of professional talents in the field of energy economics. Achieving the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality is a complex system engineering, so it is urgent to cultivate senior professionals in the field of energy economics.
