School of Business Held the Global Management Challenge Experience Sharing Seminar

On April 12th, the School of Business (MSB) successfully held the Global Management Challenge (GMC) experience-sharing seminar at Lecture Hall N211 in the library. GMC is a globally recognized business management simulation competition certified by the European Federation for Management Development (EFMD). Originating in Europe in 1980, it is an annual international event spanning five continents. It aims to improve the level of business management and simulation teaching in universities worldwide, as well as promote the standardization of management techniques in different countries.

In this experience-sharing seminar, four alumni who have won the GMC global championship, global runner-up, and the championship and runner-up in the Macau competition were invited to share their experiences. They are Yang Yindong (2019 Macau champion and 2019 global champion), Wu Zilin (2018 Macau champion and 2018 global runner-up), Guo Tianyi (2022 Macau champion), and Gu Yilin (2019 Macau runner-up). They shared their experiences from different stages of the GMC competition, aiming to inspire and encourage their fellow students to inherit and carry forward this important event. The seminar was hosted by Tang Huajun, the Assistant Dean of MSB. Dean Sheng Ni, Head of the Department of Decision Sciences Li Xin, Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance Lin Yongjia, Associate Professor Ma Rufei, and Assistant Professor Li Chunsheng also attended the seminar, together with nearly a hundred students.

Dean Sheng delivered the opening speech, emphasizing the importance of GMC in providing practical training for students in MSB. She encouraged students to embrace innovative thinking and a spirit of perseverance, as well as inherit the successful experiences of their predecessors. Following that, Guo Tianyi shared an overview of the GMC and modeling methods, sharing her experiences and the thinking process behind her success in the competition. Subsequently, the three alumni shared their experiences online. Yang Yindong analyzed the combination of strategy, macroeconomics, and data from a practical perspective and conducted an in-depth review of the past competition cases, showcasing his successful approach to the students. Gu Yilin then shared the logic behind the models and how to forecast and mine data from a technical perspective, providing in-depth insights into the utilization and predictive capabilities of models in GMC. Finally, Wu Zilin discussed his transformation from a participant to a mentor, as well as how he successfully brought his experience from GMC to other important competitions and achieved a series of important awards.

This seminar has generated great enthusiasm among MSB students through active participation and inquiries. The sharing by the four alumni has provided students with a deeper understanding of GMC and inspired and encouraged them. Their practical experiences and personal mental journeys will undoubtedly become valuable assets for students who participate in future GMC or other management challenge competitions.

MSB will continue to organize similar experience-sharing activities, providing more practical experiences and success stories to inspire students' growth and achievements. It will also continue to promote innovation and ignite students' entrepreneurial enthusiasm, cultivating more outstanding business talents.
