M.U.S.T. Students Obtained National Utility Model Patent

A group of five students (Zhang Yujia, Zhang Lanxin, Fan Yawen, Zhai Lingzi and Lu Yongtong) majoring in the Food and Nutrition Sciences (BFNS) bachelor program from the Faculty of Medicine, M.U.S.T., had successfully obtained the Utility Model Patent (ZL 2021 2 0556711.2) authorized by the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China under the guidance of Assistant Professor Zhong Tian.

The design of “An edible stirring rod for encapsulating instant powder food” product is based on the consumption habit of powder food, using composite polysaccharide material to prepare the rod and water-soluble sealing film. When in use, the rod could be inserted directly in hot water for stirring, the bottom sealing film will be dissolved, and the powder will automatically diffuse into the water. The product can be used as a convenient packaging and mixing tool for milk powder, meal replacement powder and other powder foods in making drinks. The formula of the rod is 100% green and safe composed of non-toxic edible material. 

“Apply what you have learnt to serve our Society.” is an important teaching concept of the BFNS program of the Faculty of Medicine (FMD). These five students bear in mind about the social needs and fully applied their professional knowledge into practice, providing a new solution for the market of instant powder food.
