2014 Cross-Strait Forum on Postgraduate Education Held at MUST

MUST hosted the 2014 Cross-Strait Forum on Postgraduate Education on Wednesday November 5th; the Opening Ceremony of the Forum was held in Room 101 of Block N. on campus andDirector Sou Chio Fai of Tertiary Education Services Office of Macau, Ms. Zhong Yi, member of the Administrative Committee of Macao Foundation, Prof. Zhang Shu Guang, Standing Vice President of MUST, Prof. Pang Chuan, Associate Vice President and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies of MUST, and other deans and vice deans from school of graduate studies of more than 20 cross-strait universities and experts and scholars attended the ceremony.

Prof. Zhang Shu Guang, Standing Vice President of MUST delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He made an introduction of MUST’s basic education philosophy, stressing that the University has always been upholding such educational notions as “teaching students in accordance with their aptitude” and “whole-person education”, focusing on the education mode of multi-level internationalization in administration, teaching and scientific research, promoting “Pursing Academic Excellence in Harmony” as the campus spirit, insisting on the policy of dual-emphasis on both professional education and general education, and aiming at the goal of nurturing mid and high level applied talents that can combine academic capabilities and practice ability. Prof. Zhang noted that he sincerely hopes the Forum would initiate discussions on the mode of cultivating graduate talents and innovative practices on graduate education, and in particular, would facilitate in-depth exchange of views on how the mode of cultivating graduate talents could adapt to the fast-developing society, economy and technology; in the meantime, he also wishes that by way of the Forum, exchange of views on graduate education across the two straits and four regions would be further enhanced, creating more opportunities for mutual cooperation.

At the symposium, the participant scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on such topics as “trends in future graduate education”, “cultivation mode of professional and research master”, “innovations in mode of graduate education”, and others.

The Forum has enabled the cross-strait higher institutions to borrow experience of graduate education from each other, to jointly discuss the developmental trends of future graduate programs, and to further enhance exchanges in terms of graduate education among the cross-strait universities.
