The 22nd session Shizi Gate Law Forum was held by Faculty of Law on 14 October 2022. This forum was organized by Faculty of Law, MUST and sponsored by the MUST Foundation. We have invited Professor Liu Jianhong as the guest speaker and focus on the topic “To build up the contribution relation between Criminology and Criminal Law”. Professor Liu is a distinguished professor in our Faculty, the president of the Scientific Commission of the International Society for Criminology (ISC), the president of Asian Criminological Society (ACS), the editor-in-chief of the Asian Journal of Criminology. Professor Liu received the Freda Adler Distinguished Scholar Award from the ASC and the Gerhard O W Mueller Award for Distinguished Contributions to International Criminal Justice from the ACJS.
At the beginning of the forum, Professor Fang Quan, Dean of the Faculty of Law was given a welcome speech. Professor Fang presented a souvenir to Professor Liu and was grateful for his brilliant forum.
Professor Liu started the forum by introducing the relationship between the Criminology and Criminal Law. He pointed out that the contemporary Criminology and Criminal Law have been developed into a chief component in academic fields. Therefore, understanding the relationship between Criminology and Criminal Law is importance for the study development. However, in the academic research, some of the scholars consider Criminology is a subfield of Criminal Law, yet some of them consider Criminology is a subfield of social sciences. In this forum, Professor Liu hoped that it will assist the students to build up a concrete understanding by illuminating the relationship between Criminology and Criminal Law and by combining the examples of Western and Chinese in these two fields.
There were more than 150 students, as well as Professor Fang, Associated Professor Zhu Shi Hai, Program Director Mou Xiaobo, Assistant Professor Dai Mengliang, Assistant Professor Xue Wenchao, Assistant Professor Wang Wanli and Assistant Professor Chen Qin from MUST, last but not least, Associated Professor Li Zhe from University of Macau participated in the captioned forum. Everyone enjoyed the two-hour forum and the Q&A section which benefited a lot.
