The first meeting of the M.U.S.T. Faculty of Law Consultative Committee for the 2022/2023 academic year was held on May 5th in the R104 Conference Hall of the university. The members of the Faculty of Law Consultative Committee who attended the meeting included Chairman Fang Quan, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Macau University of Science and Technology; Lei Wun Kong, a lawyer and member of the Macau Basic Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress; ORIANA INÁCIO PUN, a lawyer and Secretary General of the Macau Lawyers Association; Professor Jianhong Liu, Vice President of Administration at Chung Cheng University in Taiwan; Lao Chak Kuong, President of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law at Macau University of Science and Technology; Lou Sio Fong, a lawyer at Lou Sio Fong Law Firm in Macau; and Lu Guiping, a lawyer at Mayer Brown in Hong Kong. Also present at the meeting were Xie Gengliang, the Secretary of the Consultative Committee and Program Director of the Law School; as well as representatives of the faculty, including Associate Professor Yi Zaicheng, Assistant Professor Peng Yunpeng, and Assistant Professor Xiao Huina. Some members were unable to attend due to prior commitments.
The meeting was chaired by Chairman Fang Quan, the head of the Consultative Committee. The committee approved the minutes of the previous meeting, and Chairman Fang Quan reported on the operation and development of the Faculty of Law over the past year. The report covered various aspects, including teaching fundamentals, disciplinary construction, curriculum review and optimization, faculty situation, research progress, international exchanges and expansion, and social services.
During the meeting, committee members mainly discussed topics such as establishing new degree programs in the digital era, interdisciplinary research, the construction and expansion of research platforms and affiliated institutions, and the international development of the faculty. They also provided valuable suggestions to the faculty. The committee members acknowledged the achievements of the Faculty of Law and expressed their hope that the faculty would actively promote development in interdisciplinary fields. They emphasized leveraging regional advantages and focusing on cultivating cross-disciplinary legal professionals and versatile legal talents to meet the needs of the new era and national development.
