(1) General Research Grants (GRFs)
- GRFs are intended for all full-time faculty and research staff of MUST.
- The scope of the grants may include original research projects in all fields of arts and sciences.
- The amount of funding is MOP10,000 to MOP100,000 per project, but not more than MOP30,000 per project in the field of Arts and Sciences, and not more than MOP100,000 per project in the field of Science and Medicine. Each project in the field of science and medicine will not exceed 100,000 MOP.
- The research period is 6-12 months, and may be extended by up to 12 months upon approval.
- The total number of project team members is usually 1-3. Each research project leader can only undertake a maximum of one project under investigation (including the leader of the research team fund project and the sub-topic leader).

(2) Strength Team Research Grants (STRGs)
- The project leader should be a well-known expert in the research field, and a full-time faculty member or special professor of the University who is an associate professor or above.
- The composition of the project team should be the University's full-time staff (including specially appointed professors) as the main body, supplemented by academic staff from outside the University.
- The scope of the grant may include original research projects in all fields of arts and sciences.
- The main research content of the research project should be completed within the University.
- The research project and its content must be in line with the University's strategic academic development direction, especially to promote the University's research "bright spot project", to form the academic strengths of the relevant research areas.
- The amount of funding is MOP200,000 to MOP1,000,000 per project, with a maximum of MOP500,000 for each research project in the field of Arts, and MOP1,000,000 for each research project in the field of Science and Medicine. The research period is generally 12-18 months.
- The research period is generally 12-18 months, and may be extended for a maximum of 12 months upon approval.
- The total number of project team members is usually 3-10, and each project member can only undertake a maximum of one project under investigation, and there is no overlap with the person in charge of the general research project or the project team members.
- Project team members participating in the research team are considered to be undertaking one general research project, but the research team project must clearly identify the sub-topic leader's responsibility for the research content and the expected research objectives.

(3) Research Conference Grants (RCGs)
- Priority will be given to applications for international academic conferences submitted by associate professors or above, or by a combination of faculty members.
- The content of the conference must be of a clear academic research and exchange nature, which can promote the development of academic research and international academic exchange at the University.
- The conference can invite internationally renowned researchers and scholars as keynote speakers, and can attract internal and external faculty and students to attend the conference.
- The conference schedule and budget are generally clear.
- The amount of funding is generally $20,000-$100,000 per project, with priority given to projects with a 1:1 match or higher.
- A funded Conference Fund project is not considered to be a research project of the University undertaken by the project applicant or project team members.
