Gordon, Wu Ying Sheung, Doctor of Business Administration honoris causa

Mr. Gordon Wu Ying Sheung is a successful entrepreneur. As the founder and present chairman of the board of Hong Kong Hopewell Holdings Limited, vice-president of the Hong Kong Real Estate Developers’ Association, sponsor of the Hong Kong Logistic Development Council, and investor in the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Superhighway, his businesses can be found all over Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta Region.

He is also an outstanding expert in civil engineering expert and a noted architect. The Sand Angle Pattern for the mainland’s energy construction, which he initiated, helped to save large sums of foreign capital, and was used in the cost-efficient construction of large-scale power plants. Because of its very considerable efficiency, this pattern has become the model for overseas-funded power plants. Furthermore, his creativity manifested itself again when he brought forward the bold idea of building the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, which is certain to bring beneficial support to the development of the Guangdong-Macau-Hong Kong Region, the Pearl River Delta Region and more widely into South China.

At the same time, Sir Gordon Wu Ying Sheung is a distinguished patriot. He has always been passionate about his motherland and is enthusiastic in his support of social work and public services. For decades, he has made generous donations to education, amounting to over a hundred million HK dollars. His erstwhile shouldering of the duty of chairman of the board of the City University of Hong Kong also demonstrates his strong sense of social responsibility and patriotism. In 2004, he was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Medal of the Hong Kong SAR.

At this moment in time, as the construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge has commenced, we are very pleased to welcome the Honorary Doctor of Macau University of Science and Technology – Sir Gordon Wu Ying Sheung – and we hope that our university in the future will be as prosperous as his businesses.
