I. Program Duration

The normal study period of the program is 3 years, a Direct-Admitted Ph.D. student could extent 1-2 years to the study period. The maximum study duration is 6 years.

VI. Teaching Requirements

  1. During the period of study, each student is required to complete 4 core courses and 2 elective courses to gain 16 credits. Students should pass the subject assessment.
  2. During the period of study, each student is required to take “Advanced Networking Theory” and “Internet Architecture and its Security” courses from Table 1 during the first 3 semesters. In 1-4 semesters, students must participate at least 10 Academic Activities and gain 8 credits. Students should pass the assessment.
  3. During the period of study, each student is required to take 2 courses in the 6 elective courses listed in Table 2 (completed in the 1st and 2nd semester) according to the research direction and majors to gain 6 credits. Students should pass the assessment.
  4. Students are required to complete a Literature Survey and Thesis Planning (3rd semester) to receive 2 credits. Upon completion of thesis proposal defense, the student can begin to write the PhD dissertation (from 3rd to 6th semester) to receive 18 credits.
  5.  In general, each student should publish at least 2 SCI journal papers, and must be the first author for one of the 2 papers.
  6. After completing the study plan and pass the PhD dissertation defense, students can apply and receive a doctor degree in accordance with the doctoral application procedure of the Macau University of Science and Technology.

VII. Study Duration

  1. The duration for taking all courses is 12-24 months.
  2. The duration for dissertation composition is 24 months. The writing time should not be less than 12 months.
  3. In general, classes will be arranged from Monday to Friday night.

VIII. Graduation Requirements

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, the Doctor of Philosophy in Advanced Networking Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has:

  1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding dissertation)
  2. Abided by the regulations of the University
  3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed
