Doctor of Philosophy in Science

I. Program Duration

The normal study duration of Doctor of Philosophy in Science program is 3 years.

The maximum study duration is 6 years (Students admitted in or before academic year 2018/2019, please refer to the rules and regulations as stipulated in the intake academic year study plan).

VII. Course Structure

VIII. Teaching Requirements

1. Students are required to complete two core courses from Table 1 and one elective course from Table during the first two semesters to gain 12 credits.
2. In general, each student should publish at least two SCI journal papers, and must be the first author.
3. After completing required courses, students can start writing the thesis proposal. Students can continue their dissertation research and writing upon completion of thesis proposal defense.
4. The dissertation should pass the assessment and be defended successfully.

IX. Study Time

1. The duration for taking all courses is 12 months.
2. The duration for dissertation composition is 24 months. The writing time should not be less than 12 months.
3. In general, classes will be arranged from Monday to Friday night.

X. Graduation Requirements

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, the Doctor of Philosophy in Science Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has:

1. Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding dissertation).
2. Abided by the regulations of the University.
3. Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed.
