Scholarships

The university encourages students to diligently pursue their studies and provides a generous range of scholarships for postgraduate applicants. These scholarships include the following categories:

1. Outstanding Academic Achievement Scholarship

Awarded to: Masters and doctoral applicants (including direct entry to Ph.D. from bachelor’s degree) with outstanding pre-requisite qualifications.

Grant amount: Full or half of the tuition fee (up to two academic years to master’s students and three academic years to doctoral students).

Requirements: Applicants who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply for the Outstanding Academic Achievement Scholarship and will be evaluated based on their admission examination results. Scholarship application results will be announced at the same time as admission results after being approved by the University Graduate Scholarship Committee.

Requirements

Master’s applicants

  • Studied or graduated from top universities (including top 300 universities in the world, double first-class universities in China, top universities in related disciplines, etc.);
  • Provided at least six semesters of undergraduate academic record with an overall average score/grade of 80 ( on a 100-point scale) or 3.5 (on a 4-point scale) or equivalent;
  • Proof of at least one language proficiency (e.g. CET-4 with a score of 500, IELTS with a score of 6.0, TOEFL iBT with a score of 78 or above), or other proof of foreign language proficiency, or other proof of special skills/awards.

Doctoral applicants

  • Studied or graduated from top universities (including top 300 universities in the world, double first-class universities in China, top universities in related disciplines, etc.);
  • Provided at least two semesters of master’s academic record with overall average score/grade of 80 (on a 100-point scale) or 3.5 (on a 4-point scale) or equivalent;
  • Proof of at least one language proficiency (e.g. CET-4 with a score of 500, IELTS with a score of 6.0, TOEFL iBT with a score of 78 or above), or other proof of foreign language proficiency, or other proof of special skills/awards.

 

2. Postgraduate Studentships (PGS)

Awarded to: Doctoral applicants (including direct entry to Ph.D. from bachelor’s degree) with outstanding pre-requisite qualifications. (Not applicable to master’s applicants)

Grant Amount: The total amount is about 500,000 Hong Kong dollars for each student. Includes full tuition fee subsidy, waiver of rent and bedding fee for specified types of dormitories, and a monthly allowance of MOP 4,500 for up to three academic years.

Requirements: Applicants who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply for the Postgraduate Studentships (PGS) and will be evaluated based on their admission examination results. Application results will be announced at the same time as admission results after being approved by the University Graduate Scholarship Committee.

Doctoral applicants

  • Provided at least two semesters of master’s academic record with overall average score/grade of 80 (on a 100-point scale) or 3.5 (on a 4-point scale) or equivalent;
  • Proof of at least one language proficiency (e.g. CET-4 with a score of 500, IELTS with a score of 6.0, TOEFL iBT with a score of 78 or above), or other proof of foreign language proficiency, or other proof of special skills/awards.
  • Have published academic papers/articles in journals recognized by the university, or have won awards in research/innovation and entrepreneurship competitions at the provincial level or above.

 

3. Scholarships for Sports and Arts Elite

Awarded to: Masters and doctoral applicants with specialties in sports, arts, or industry (e.g. national athletes, artistic specialties, well-known professionals in related fields, etc.).

Granted Amount: Full or half of the tuition fee (up to two academic years to master’s students and three academic years to doctoral students).

Requirements: Applicants who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply for the Scholarships for Sports and Arts Elite and will be evaluated based on their admission examination results. Application results will be announced at the same time as admission results after being approved by the University Graduate Scholarship Committee.

Requirements

Master’s applicants

  • Have won outstanding results (top three) in provincial or above competitions, and provide relevant proof;
  • Have provided at least six semesters of the undergraduate academic record of grade point average.

Doctoral applicants

  • Have won outstanding results (top three) in provincial or above competitions, and provide relevant proof;
  • Have provided at least two semesters of master’s academic average.

Attachment: The issuance and termination of scholarships is regulated by the Regulations stated in the Postgraduate Studentships Ordinance.

After admission, the applicant will also have the opportunity to obtain an institutional scholarship.

Applicants can submit their applications for scholarship and financial aid through the Online Application System (OAS) at the time of application.
