Course Description

MBOZ01 Charity Fundraising (3 credits)

Considering that the success of philanthropy and social organizations depends on the ability of fundraising, this course includes : cooperate with individual donor、analyze the base of donor、plan specific fundraising projects、ask for help from foundations and institutions、obtain reports from media、use website to propel fundraising aim、start a parergon for fundraising and some other related topics.

MBOZ02 Social Science Research Methods (3 credits)

This course is mainly to help students understand social science research methods. The course will cover the topics of research design、questionnaire design、reliability and validity、statistical analysis、the explanations of analytical results and research report writing. In addition, the ethical issues for doing research will also be given in the class. The goal for this course is to develop students' ability of systematic thinking and how to grasp the basic knowledge about the social science research methods.

MBOZ03 Introduction to Social Organization Management (3 credits)

This course covers the specific content of social organization management, such as the characteristic of social organization,  social organizational structure and administrative leadership, responsibility and performance evaluation, strategic planning and management, ability building and cooperation、employee and volunteer management、marketing and communication.

MBOZ04 Social Enterprise and Social Innovation (3 credits)

This course will go deep into different kinds of topics, transforming from existing enterprise goals、enterprise forms and profit distribution in the past into a variety of social organization operations with social value and meaning. From the perspective of social innovation, it will also discuss the rise of social enterprises and make various social innovation programmes for social entrepreneurship that combined with brainstorming and analytical thinking on multiple development topics, then find out everyone's passion and mission for the operation of social organizations. Through the discussion of cases, our course will examine the successful social enterprises and explore the inherent characteristics of social innovation. At the same time, it will encourage students to apply what they have learned to different public welfare social organizations, and apply various creative ideas to identify and solve problems for public welfare social organizations and finally bring new value to the whole society.

MBOZ05 Financial Management for Social Organizations (3 credits)

This course will introduce the basic principles of financial management and its application in social organizations. During the class, the analytical method of time-value of money and compilation skills of financial budget, the basic principles of economic cost accounting, as well as common financial products and financing methods will also be covered. Furthermore, this course will also introduce the basic principles of accounting information management and financial statement compilation and discuss the special financial needs and management principles. It will further introduce the knowledge and skills related to the financial reporting and financial situation analysis of social organizations. The goal for this course is to help students understand the financial situation of organizations, the achievement of social goals, operational efficiency and so on.

MBOZ06 Human Resource Management for Social Organizations (3 credits)

This course covers major activities in the field of recruiting and staffing, training and development, compensation, performance appraisal, reward systems, employee relations and organizational job design in charity and philanthropic sectors. These activities will provide guidance about creating and implementing effective management systems for students. After learning this course, students can understand the basic characteristics and main functions of human resource management in charity and philanthropy field, more importantly, they can apply this theoretical knowledge to the real practice.

MBOZ07 Public Relations and Charity Communications (3 credits)

This course emphasizes the functional status, core link, basic media and important types of charity public relation and communication, it also pays attention to theoretical、operational and intelligent of modern charity public relation and communication. This course discusses that charity public relation and communication is the independent and integrative function of modern charity management; the core link of charity public relations and communication is the design and construction of charity organization image; the theory of organization image, communication and interpersonal relationship related to charity relation and communication; the linguistic and non-linguistic media and functional means of charity public relation and communication. Also explores communication during charity policy formulation and implementation; explores charity communication under stress and crisis; explores charity communication under the cross-cultural background. Hoping to let students know the nature、status、theories and basic skills of charity public relation and communication and put it into practice.

MBOZ08 Survey Research for Social Organizations (3 credits)

In social science research, survey is the most commonly used instrument to explore person's attitude, value, perception and opinion. This course will teach students how to design and analyze questionnaires and explain the analytical results for a real survey. By the way, students will finish a real survey during this class.

MBOE01 Case Study in Social Organization Management (3 credits)

This course will make use of various classic cases to discuss the topics related to social organization fundraising, financial management, project design and management, public relation, volunteer management, and crisis management in social organizations.

MBOE02 Corporate Social Responsibility (3 credits)

Recently, due to the impact of financial fraud cases, environmental problems and globalization, the issues of business ethics, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development and other related topics have received much attention not only in profit organizations but also in charity and philanthropy organizations. This course will take enterprise ethics, enterprise culture and workplace ethics, corporate function and ethics, and new ethical issues as four main topics to let students learn how to do the risk management and long-term competition decision by organization's sustainable operation and ethical thinking. Meanwhile, the business model of the organization which achieve integration of economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainability management should be considered.

MBOE03 Charity Project development, Management, and Assessment (3 credits)

This course emphasizes the learning of logic model in charity projects. The class mainly focus on guiding students from problem analysis to evaluation and understanding the principle of project design and different methods and tools of project management. After learning this course, students can put these knowledge in real practice in the service plan and really understand the internal consistency and integrity of charity projects by applying the concepts of charity project development, management, and assessment.

MBOE04 Brand Building and Cause Marketing (3 credits)

Brand is a company's most important and valuable asset. The purpose of this course is to introduce concepts related to brands, brand management strategies, and how non-profit company integrate resources to build and develop brands. After studying this course, students should learn about brand management theory and know how to give brand managers good strategies.

MBOE05 Government, Enterprise, and Civil Society (3 credits)

Under the new concept of collaborative governance, this course emphasizes areas of differentiation, relationship evolution, function differentiation and burden sharing of government, enterprise and civil society in the overall social system. It will also pay attention to the theoretical, practical and indigenous nature of civil society cognition; analyze the law and process of differentiation in politics, economy, culture, society and ecology; explain the change of form,system and function of government, enterprise and civil society and the historical track of the evolution; analyses the main theoretical arguments about the relationship among government, enterprise and civil society; states the form,system,function and responsibility of modern government; explains modern enterprise system, function and social responsibility, the constitution and principles of modern civil society, the types and ways of development and responsibility of modern civil society. To make sure students can have a correct understanding of the relationship among government, enterprise and civil society under modern conditions.

MBOE06 Fundamentals of Law for Social Organizations (3 credits)

This course mainly introduces the framework of legal system and social organizational structure. The related departmental laws include constitution, administrative law and civil law. In more detail, it will focus on the analysis of association in constitution and property protection social organizations. Furthermore, it also probes into the cooperation between the government and social organizations in the field of administrative law, as well as civil rights capacity. In order to establish the legal concept of managing social organizations according to law, students should master the basic system of legal governance in social organizations.

MBOE07 Latest Topics on Philanthropy and Social Organization Management (3 credits)

In view of the emerging major in the department of charity and social organization management, new issues related to this course may have not yet emerged before. This course is designed to invite experts, scholars and professionals from different fields to come to our school at any time, so that latest knowledge and challenges can be given to students.
