“The 5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Intellectual Property Student Forum” was successfully held on November 18-19, 2023, organized by the Faculty of Law Students’ Association of Students’ Union of M.U.S.T. This event aims to jointly explore the significance of the protection and application of intellectual property rights in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and to deepen the understanding of this important national strategy of the GBA.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Chan Iok Wai, Head of Department of Students of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao SAR, Assistant Professor Xie Gengliang, Program Director of Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T., Assistant Professor Guo, YiTing, Ms. Tam Kit Leng, Duty Manager of Student Affairs Office of M.U.S.T., Ms. Sia Siao Rong, Instructor, Mr. Ho Chon Hou from WICH Law Firm and Private Notary, Mr. Yang Lin from Hunan Tiandiren Law Firm, and nearly 100 law school student representatives.

The forum event was enriching, starting with the opening ceremony in the morning of November 18th and the opening ceremony of the forum. During the opening ceremony, Mr. Chan Iok Wai, Assistant Professor Xie Gengliang, Lawyer Yang Lin, President Zeng Zhiqing, and LI Yichen, President of Faculty of Law Students’ Association of of Students’ Union of M.U.S.T. were invited to deliver opening speeches.
After the successful completion of the opening ceremony, Lawyer Ho Chon Hou and Mr. Yang Lin delivered opening speeches on the theme of the forum. In combination with local laws and regulations on intellectual property in Macao, Lawyer Ho Chon Hou introduced the current situation of intellectual property in Macao to the students. Mr. Yang Lin presented different perspectives and insights on scientific and technological development, national development strategies, and globalization through two practical cases. The speeches of the two guests provided valuable research directions for the upcoming student discussion segment.

Two main themes of the forum: "Innovation in the Basic Theory of Intellectual Property in the Era of Artificial Intelligence" and "Risks and Suggestions for Customs Protection of Intellectual Property in the GBA under the New Inspection Model" for student discussions and presentations. Each group had a heated discussion and summarized the discussion process. Each group of students showcased their excellent work to everyone in turn.

“The 5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Greater Bay Area Intellectual Property Student Forum” was successfully held, where students actively expressed their views on intellectual property issues in the Greater Bay Area, discussed the theme in-depth, and actively explored the legal paths for the collaborative development of intellectual property in the Greater Bay Area, and learned about the construction of the Bay Area through friction and consultation, and demonstrated the wisdom of youth through interaction and exchange. With the support from Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T., the Macau Intellectual Property Research Center, Student Affairs Office of M.U.S.T., and sponsored by Bank of China (Macau Branch), Faculty of Law Students’ Association of of Students’ Union of M.U.S.T. successfully completed this activity.
